Palladio's View Villa - St. John (St. John)

The villa is Danish West Indian in concept, yet evokes the style of Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio. Comfortably able to accommodate up to six persons, Palladio's View is at once private and open to nature's wonders. A few steps lead down to a large spa and then to the pool, from which one can idly observe the passage of wind-filled sails and star-filled skies.

Palladio's View is our home in the Caribbean. We designed it to be our family paradise. We'd love to share it with you.

Coral Bay was once the commercial center of St. John. Fortunately, that day has passed. Although restaurants and other services are available in Coral Bay, Cruz Bay and the southwestern area of St. John are the busier, more developed part of the island. We chose to build Palladio's View in Calabash Boom, above Coral Bay, because it is quiet and unhurried, it has superior views, and it benefits from dependable, cooling, easterly breezes.

Airlines

To get to St. John you must fly to St. Thomas, then take a short ferry ride to St. John. The following airlines currently fly to St. Thomas, either directly or through San Juan, Miami or Atlanta:

American/American Eagle (800) 443-7300
Delta (800) 221-1212
U. S. Airways (800) 428-4322
United (800) 241-6522

You can find out more information about airlines, discounts, and schedules at www.travelocity.com or www.expedia.com.

You should bring your passport or original birth certificate.

Ferry

From the St. Thomas airport you will take a taxi to the St. John ferry. Ferries to St. John run frequently from Red Hook on the eastern end of St. Thomas. Ferries to St. John also run, less frequently, from downtown Charlotte Amalie, the territorial capital of the U.S. Virgin Islands. The downtown ferry is a shorter taxi ride, but a longer ferry ride that can be rough if the wind is up. We recommend the Red Hook ferry. Our St. John house manager, Pam Redinger of Great Caribbean Getaways (phone: 800-341-2532 or 340-693-8692, email: gcgetaways@islands.vi) will arrange for a taxi to meet you at the airport and take you to the ferry.

Considering the time it takes to unload luggage on St. Thomas, you should not expect to be at the St. John ferry in less than one hour from the time your plane lands.

For ferry schedules and costs, see www.usvi-info.com/infousvi/ferry.html.

Pick up

Pam Redinger will greet you at the ferry dock on St. John, take you to pick up your rental vehicle, and escort you to Palladio's View.

Rental Vehicles

You will need a rental vehicle during your St. John stay. Pam Redinger, who has contacts at a number of the rental agencies on St. John, can arrange the rental for you. All rental vehicles are four-wheel drive. If you plan in advance, you should have a good choice of two- and four-door vehicles (from Suzuki Sidekicks to Jeep Cherokees). In the Virgin Islands cars drive on the left, and have left-hand drive. Drivers must be 25 years of age. The seat belt law is vigorously enforced.
