The Waterfront Cottage - St. Thomas (Water Island)

Water Island is only a five-minute ferry ride away from St. Thomas, however it will seem as though you are a million miles away. Quiet, peaceful, beautiful Water Island awaits you and The Waterfront Cottage gives you access to all of its wonder.

Providence Point is singularly spectacular. With the Caribbean Sea surrounding the point it will seem like you are on a private island. Private dock, a small private beach, close access to beautiful Honeymoon Beach, a private pool... It is simply magnificent. In this paradise there will be no neighbors, no interruptions, just you and relaxation. Although private you are not isolated, the owners are on location and can assist you.

Water Island is the fourth and newest Virgin Island. At a little less than 500 acres, Water Island is a slice of America's Paradise. Quiet, tranquil beauty awaits you. One of the loveliest locations on Water Island is Providence Point, a private peninsula surrounded by the blue sea. The only residence on the Point is the Waterfront Cottage and Apartments property. Staying at the Cottage is a magnificent island retreat. So come join us for a fantastic vacation.

These airlines fly direct to St. Thomas: American Airlines flies from New York City, Miami and Boston. Delta flies direct from Atlanta. Continental flies direct from Newark and US Airways has direct service from Philadelphia and from Charlotte, North Carolina. There are many airlines flying to St. Thomas from San Juan Puerto Rico.

How to get to Water Island: From the Airport - Take a taxi to "Tickles Restaurant in Crown Bay Marina" Ask to go to the sidewalk by Tickles building or the taxi will leave you where it is easier for them to park and you'll have a longer walk. The ferry to Water Island is a small launch with room for 25 passengers and luggage (Yes we put the luggage on the roof!). There is no car barge. The price is $4 each way. Say Hello to Steve who owns the ferry.

The ferry has a new owner - this is the latest schedule. The Ferry leaves St. Thomas at 6:30 AM, 7:15, 8:00, 10:00, Noon, 2:00, 4:15, 5:15 and 6:00. The Ferry leaves Water Island at 6:45 AM, 7:30, 8:15, 10:15, 12:15, 2:15, 4:30, 5:30 and 6:10 Late Runs on Friday and Saturday at 8 and 10 PM; from Water Island at 8:10 and 10:10 PM. There are late runs on Wednesday during the "tourist" season. Sunday and Holidays - From St. Thomas at 8:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM From Water Island at 8:15, 11:15, 1:15 and 5:15.

What to Bring - nothing! Well, almost nothing. One visitor came to Water Island with nothing more than a purse. When asked where her luggage was she responded, "In my purse I have my bikini. Do I need anything else?" She's right. It is comical to see visitors arrive with suitcases upon suitcases of long pants and sweat shirts and evening gowns. Consider - the weather is never colder than 70 degrees - never hotter than 95. I advise - Two shorts, two T-shirts, two sneakers, enough socks and underwear for the time period. One long sleeve shirt or pullover (in case the evening 70 degrees feels "cool" to you) A beach wrap, hat (mandatory) sunscreen, mosquito spray, sandals, surf shoes or surf mocs, toothbrush and whatever. PACK LIGHT... You don't need much here. Long pants? Yes - light weight long sleeve shirt and light long pants are good if we have a buggy evening. Or if you plan to hike the "outback. " A bathing suit is necessary. One is enough. It will dry between uses. No coats, jackets or sweaters unless you freeze in July.

AMENITIES: The rental cottage is fully appointed for a family of four to six persons. There are two bedrooms, each with a king size bed. There are futon's if additional beds are needed. The kitchen is complete - all the gear you need to manage your whole meal service - microwave, barbeque grill, coffee maker and all the kitchen basics are on hand. We have Satellite Television and high speed Internet. The patio view is unsurpassed - in all the Caribbean - there is nothing like the intimacy of this cottage and the ocean. Other places in the islands may have an ocean "view" however your view at the Waterfront Cottage is all around The Point. Come to the islands and enjoy peaceful Water Island while staying on beautiful Providence Point.

You have a complete house and a complete do-it-yourself facility to make your vacation mellow and relaxed. Bi-weekly maid service is included. Visitors enjoy a private swimming pool located at the very end of Providence Point, a spectacular location and a pool that has been described as a "work of art". The pool includes a Roman temple style cabana by the pool. It all looks like a classical roman bath.

We have the largest fresh water pool on Water Island - right on the end of the point - surrounded by ocean. Just built - it is spectacular. It has three distinct areas- one shallow area for toddlers, one for small children and a "deep" area that is 6 feet deep. The pool even has an island! Star gazing or sun bathing on the roof top deck is spectacular! There is also a hot tub on the Point, not far from the pool.

The cottage and apartments all have satellite television; telephone hooks ups for computer access. Providence Point has its own deep water dock for ocean swimming; excellent snorkeling right in the front yard and each apartment includes use of a car or golf cart to explore Water Island. There is also a kayak and small sail boat for the use of our guests. We are the nearest homes to Honeymoon Beach - a 5 minute walk - or 10 minute swim.

The cottage is 2,000 square feet with two bedrooms and a complete kitchen. Two King beds and two futon sofas means the cottage accommodates two couples or a family up to 6 persons. It has a water front patio with unimpeded views of the sunsets. The two apartments are 1,600 square feet each, with two bedrooms - one King bed and two twin beds. There is a full kitchen in each apartment huge living rooms and a vast library. The patio overlooks the ocean and has unparalleled vistas of the western Caribbean.

When you arrive - if you remind us the day before you fly - we will leave a car at the ferry dock for you. The keys are under the sign that says "Randall Car." It might be a Blue Mitsubishi Wagon - License plate #555. Or the Mercedes Benz with plate #55. We share all vehicles and they are included in the Waterfront Cottage stay. We have two Golf Carts and two cars. You get whatever fits your family. All vehicles are idiosyncratic - be sure you ask for the details of your vehicle.
ACTIVITIES: You could be laying on the beach, enjoying the tranquility of Water Island and the intimate hospitality of The Waterfront Cottage and Apartments for your next vacation. Enjoy this beach today, day trip to St. Thomas the next day, go snorkeling the following day, hiking the next... doesn't it sound perfect? Start planning your vacation to the U.S.V.I and your stay at the Waterfront Cottage and apartments today!

Is there a beach on Water Island? Yes! Water Island has a spectacular beach - Honeymoon Beach - fine sand and gentle waves - not the big surf of Hawaii or even St. Thomas north shore. There are no houses on the Beach, but Providence Point is the closest homes to this beach. We swim from our private dock in about 10-12 minutes or walk on the road in 5 minutes. Honeymoon beach is almost deserted on any day and you will feel like it is your own private beach. On Sunday's there is a group of regulars and a volleyball game. Most days the party raft Kon Tiki visits the beach for one hour between 2 and 3:00 PM with a party of cruise ship passengers. Amusing.

Travel on Water Island - We yield to Turtles, Iguana and elderly walkers returning from the beach. We also drive on the left like all of the Virgin Islands. We drive golf carts, cars without mufflers or doors or windshields. The Providence Point Cottage and apartments include a golf cart or car depending on your needs. Walking works on Water Island since it is only 500 acres.

There is a Bicycle tour of Water Island. Susan and Butch will ferry you to WI and take you around, bike ride (mostly downhill) and end up on the beach. The bike tour of Water Island is excellent. Make a reservation now 340-714-2186 Say Hi to Susan Miller from Alex.

Close Shopping - Right at the St. Thomas ferry dock we have Gourmet Gallery and Tickles Restaurant. There is also St. Thomas Communications with a full officer service, Cingular Communication for cell Phones, Monica's Hair Salon and a scuba shop and marine hardware store. There is also the "Drop or Do" laundry in Crown Bay Marina. Nearest Mall - We have Nisky Center just a 2 minute walk from the St. Thomas ferry dock. Nisky Center has Dominos, take-out Chinese, KFC, a pharmacy, computer shop, bank, video rental, music shop, Pro Nails, eye glasses shop. It is a complete mall of shops, but no Sears or K-Mart in that mall. The same distance in a different direction is Pueblo - a complete food supermarket.

Exotic Shopping - St Thomas is a shopping Mecca. We have more diamond shops and jewelers downtown than any other place in the world. We get 1.7 million visitors a year to come to our shopping. There is a K-Mart and Cost-U-Less that require a drive.

Swimming - You can swim at any time, a private pool located at the end of Providence Point is an island dream. Additionally swimming at Water Island's beaches are the finest anywhere - not too crowded, not totally alone. If you want to swim from the rocks, you are advised to wear surf shoes to keep from stepping on Sea Urchins. Snorkeling is also divine. Remember: Don't touch - some of the pretty things have stingers and the Sea Urchins are nasty.

Best Walk - go down to the shore in front of the cottage and walk the perimeter of the Point along the shore, sneakers required and some agility. Any kid can do it. Then take the same trip 20 feet further out (in the ocean) with a face mask and snorkel - fabulous!

For scuba dives, we recommend Blue Island Divers in Crown Bay Marina. They can take you on dive tours or teach you to dive and give you PADI Certification. http://www.blueislanddivers.com/

If you want to go on a deep sea or local fishing trip,. we recommend Peanut Gallery Fishing Charters. http://www.fishingstthomas.com/
