Mermaid's Ridge - Bahamas (Elbow Cay, Abaco)

Mermaid's Ridge sits right on the Atlantic beach, so almost all year there are cool breezes (which usually means no bugs) coming off the ocean, but for the really calm or hot days, the home is fully air-conditioned.

Because the Abaco weather is as near perfect as you are likely to get, you will probably find that you will be spending most of your time outside. All around the two units are huge decks, and you will always find a shady spot for lounging on the Adirondack chairs, reading, enjoying a rum punch, or just doing nothing! And at night you will see more stars than you ever thought possible!

AMENITIES: The kitchen is beautifully equipped with a big cooking oven and glass 4 burner cooktop, a big fridge/freezer unit with ice-maker, built in moulded double sinks and worktop area and a huge cupboard space with walk-in pantry.

The second unit is completely self-contained offering complete privacy for the third couple. It has a queen-sized ocean view bedroom with en-suite bath, a spacious living area and its own kitchenette. The kitchenette has a 2 burner cooktop, a microwave, fridge, double sink and lots of cupboards.

There are 6 or 8 restaurants on the island, the nearest to Mermaid's Ridge being at the Sea Spray Resort and Marina at White Sound, which is about a 10 minute walk away.
ACTIVITIES: Outside your front door at Mermaid's Ridge is a sandy beach which extends to the North for well over a mile. It is a great place to walk, to look for sea shells, to build a sand castle, or do nothing. About 5 minutes walk away is Tahiti Beach, which is a beautiful sandy beach, gently sloping into warm tranquil water. Behind the beach is a stand of coconut palms just like the postcards. It's not uncommon to see rays, bonefish, small barracudas or even small, harmless sand sharks in the water. It is magical and most relaxing.

Hope Town is a lovely little town with a busy harbour. In the town are a couple of grocery stores, a few gift/craft shops, and a few restaurants/bars - some with live entertainment in the evening. There is no traffic, so wandering through the pretty little streets is a fine way to spend some unhurried Bahamian time. And the North Beach offers the best snorkeling on the island.

In Hope Town, a couple of companies run boat trips to nearby underwater parks for snorkeling or scuba diving, then on for a lunch at either Little Harbour or Nippers. Either trip is inexpensive and fun.

You can go on guided bonefishing excursions, or deep sea fishing off the reef very close to the East shore of Elbow Cay. Or, do nothing!

DINING/RESTARUANTS:
Type: Vacation Rental Beach Location: Beach Front (Directly on Beach/Water Front)
