Honduras Beachfront - Bay Islands (Sandy Bay, Roatan)

Each Cabana in the complex is nestled on a slight hill overlooking the beach amidst native plants. – a true horticultural delight. In addition to flowering shrubs, there are a variety of mangos, limes, bananas, coconut palms, avocados, and cashews that provide each unit with “space and privacy”. Orchids and bromeliads are present throughout the complex.

There is a delightful fresh water swimming pool for those who want a respite from the salt-water paradise.

Sundancer has a three hundred foot pier jutting out into the lagoon. Its thatched cabana-bar and sun deck are favorite spots to enjoy magnificent sunsets (Bonnie likes the sunrises just as much).

AMENITIES: The Cabana has two bedrooms and a loft for sleeping, an open living room and dining room, a fully furnished kitchen with modern appliances, and two covered porches.

ACTIVITIES: Roatan Institute of Marine Sciences (RIMS). Located at Anthony Key Resort (Sandy Bay), RIMS is the home of a number of bottle-nosed dolphins. Some are “current and former” performers. Others have been born at the Institute. They have dolphin shows regularly. It's a must to make arrangements to “swim with the Dolphins”.

Roatan Museum. Also located at Anthony Key Resort (Sandy Bay), the museum contains information concerning the history and archaeology of the island.

Begun in 1985, the gardens showcase a wide variety of exotic plants. Situated along the banks of "Mahogany Creek, " bridges connect walkways that lead the visitor through areas of flowering plants, ferns spices, fruit trees such as cashew and Carambola, hardwoods including the world famous Honduran mahogany, and Roatan's most extensive orchid collection. Located across the road from Anthony Key Resort.

Tropical Treasurers Bird Park.

Located about half way between Sundancer Cabana and RIMS, the bird park has an excellent exhibit of macaws, toucans, and parrots.

The Iguana Farm. Located just to the east of French Harbor, the Iguana Farm will provide you with an opportunity to encounter this island native. No charge, but donations are accepted to help feed the iguana.

Snorkeling at “wherever there is a lagoon and/or a coral head”. We particularly like the lagoon and reef in front of Sundancer, the reef at Anthony Key Resort, and Tabayana beach. Many of the dive boats will also take snorkelers. This is a fantastic way to get to the reef without the swim. It's a fantastic snorkeling experience. We particularly like to go with the dive boats from Inn of Last Resort, Bay Island Beach Resort, and Anthony Key Resort.

If you go to Bay Island Beach Resort be sure to introduce yourself to Kathleen. She'll take good care of you.

Every Resort on the island has a major dive program with appropriate certifications. In addition, there are numerous independent dive shops. In the west end we like Sueno del Mar and West End Divers.

Sea Kayaks are available for rental in the West End at Bamboo Village and Cannibal Café. They are also available at the Tabayana Beach Resort at Tabayana Bay.

There are two glass bottom boats operating out of the West End. One departs from West Point in West Bay and the other from Half Moon Bay Cabins.

There are several options for horseback riding on the island. Options include riding on the beach or following trails up in the mountains.

DINING/RESTARUANTS:
