Once visited, never forgotten. The peace and quiet of a desert island, yet 'civilisation', with all its amenities, just around the corner. Eleuthera itself is one of the outlying 'family islands' of the Bahamas, that are characterised by unspoiled, uncrowded beaches with pink and white sand and turquoise waters, and a leisurely pace of life guaranteed to be an antidote to the stresses of modern living. The nearby Club At Windermere (5 minutes walk) has a bar and restaurant open November to May and a swimming pool and tennis courts available all year round. The nearest supermarkets are 20/30 minutes by car. A cook and/or babysitter are available if required, the daily maid service is included in the rental. Grocery shopping ready for your arrival can be done by arrangement with the caretaker. Several local-style restaurants are within 30 minutes drive. Flights from Miami, Fort Lauderdale or Nassau fly daily into Governor's Harbour or Rock Sound airports, 40 minutes drive away. Car rental is readily available. AMENITIES: “Savannah” as it is called, by its owners, commands the sea and beach from atop its own private Sahara. Its storm-safe concrete-block walls are coated with plaster mixed with honey-colored lime stone dust from a local quarry and textured with seashells. A light raft-like walking deck, anchored at its edges by occasional low standing parapets of the same plastered masonry, surrounds the house. The grand entry leads through to a screened porch and dinning area. To the right stands the master bedroom and to the left a double bunk bed room. The large high ceilinged living room is soft and cool with bold sculptural paintings dominating the walls. Another guest room leads off to one side of this and the newly renovated kitchen to the other. A detached guest pavilion stands to the right of the house. All rooms are air-conditioned with ensuite bathrooms. With two king bedrooms, one double twin and four bunk beds the house sleeps 10 comfortably. We have a private path down to the five miles of deserted pink sand beach. Or a short walk brings you to the sheltered lagoon. There is also The Home Owners Club next door to our property, which in season has a restaurant and library with cable and satellite T.V. and year round there is a large swimming pool and two tennis courts. Windermere is a private gated island joining Eleuthera by bridge. There is a daily housekeeper and with notice a cook can be arranged. ACTIVITIES: Local attractions on Eleuthera such as the spectacular Glass Window Bridge and Hatchet Bay Caves are well worth a visit. A golf course is also in the vicinty, and local fishing trips can be arranged, as can the hire of bicycles. Swimming, tennis, walking, cycling, fishing and water skiing.
