Frangipani Cottage - Bahamas (Great Guana Cay - Abaco)

The Abacos are a group of Bahamian islands located approximately 175 miles east of Palm Beach, Florida. Great Guana Cay is an out-island off the coast of Great Abaco, the third largest island in the Bahamas. Approximately seven miles long and varying in width from 200 yards to 1/2 mile, this "Loyalist Cay" has an old English population of 150 residents that live in and around the settlement. Guana Cay lies between Green Turtle and Man-O-War Cays with the electric blue Atlantic Ocean to the east and the resplendent turquoise waters of the Sea of Abaco to the west.

Vacationers in search of the "Perfect 10" in beaches can end their quest at Guana Cay. A picture perfect pink sand beach that offers wonderful swimming, snorkeling and beach combing. Beach-entry snorkelers and divers can explore the Great Abaco Barrier Reef which starts less than 50 feet from shore. Elkhorn, Brain and Star coral form caves and trails that lead to coral gardens and tropical fish in every vibrant color imaginable swim within reach, but look and don't touch as the reef is a protected area. A short boat trip can take you to Fowl Cay National Park underwater preserves. Arrange a dive or snorkel trip with Troy or Maria of Dive Guana for an adventure you will not forget.

So many islands, so little time!

The Abacos are a boaters paradise. Rent a boat from Blue Wave Rentals or one of several rental companies in Marsh Harbour and spend your leisure days island hopping. Visit the Hope Town Lighthouse on Elbow Cay, Man-O-War's boat building shops or the museums and shops on Green Turtle Cay. Hire a fishing guide or try your luck at Bonefishing on the flats. Just offshore you can test your newest fishing tackle on tuna, wahoo, dolphin and billfish, or fish the reefs for snapper and grouper.

"Disclaimer"

If your idea of a relaxing vacation includes golf, night clubs and gambling, Great Guana Cay is not for you.

AMENITIES: The living area is decorated in rattan and tropical prints to enhance the island atmosphere. The double French doors open onto a screened front porch allowing the sea breezes to fill the cottage.
A radio, cassette, CD player and a TV/VCR is provided for viewing video tapes, but there is no television reception. A VHF radio is also available for communication with island residents. Listen to the "Cruiser's Net" on channel 68 every morning at 8:15 a.m. for up to the minute weather, news, announcements and what's happening.

The kitchen is fully equipped and includes a full size refrigerator and freezer, microwave oven, toaster, blender and coffee-maker.

There are two bedrooms, each featuring a custom built queen size bed, walk-in closet and private bath with shower. All linens are provided but please bring your own beach towels.

It is a leisurely 15 minute walk to the settlement on Great Guana Cay, a 10 minute walk to one of the best pink sand beaches in the Abaco's or a 1 minute walk to the end of the dock on the Sea of Abaco to enjoy the magnificent sunsets. The Sea of Abaco is our front yard, so rent a boat and take advantage of this small boaters paradise.
