Petit Byahaut - St. Vincent ()

We dreamed a dream to live in a beautiful secluded place where flowers, trees and birds are a part of everyday; on the ocean where swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving are at our front yard; where dusk brings the ever-changing sunsets and night the splash of the Milky Way. After years of enjoyable travel and research in the Caribbean, we found a forgotten, neglected overgrown valley that was inaccessible by land. No utilities, no road, no telephone. There was past habitation as evidenced by a Carib oven carved in a rock face. Also, sugar was processed here and most likely grown, as ruins of a processing plant are on the north end of the beach. We also found the old copper pot which was used in the plant. This beautiful valley on the bay realized our dream of seclusion, beauty and nature. The purchase was made!

We've been careful with this small part of the world. There are more birds, fish, healthier coral and sponges than when we arrived. The birds came in greater numbers, thousands of flowers began to bloom and the coral grew healthier when we started controlling the fresh water and organic run off. Today, Petit Byahaut is a place of natural beauty.

Petit Byahaut blends technology with nature in a friendly and non-intrusive way. There are 11 reservoirs we've built that store the fresh water from the rain showers and from the artesian well on the property. Electricity is provided by solar power and used for lightning, refrigeration and water pressure.

If you enjoy being a part of nature...if you enjoy a walk through acres of flowers to get to the privacy of your own place...if you enjoy seclusion where events might include an Antillean Crested Hummingbird sipping the nectar of a hibiscus or a school of Blue Tangs swimming lazily through iridescent yellow sponges or a tropical evening where you sit on the dock and witness a shooting star; you'll enjoy what we enjoy. You'll love it here! Please come.
AMENITIES: Petit Byahaut is a private place of natural adventure with accommodations for a few spirited individuals. In keeping with the natural surroundings, unobtrusive dwellings nestle into the hillside gardens.

Each site is individual as dictated by the natural flow of a slope, rock, tree or view. One is an expansive patio with a raised, screened bedroom. Another is a Tent with spacious natural wood decks, screened windows and doors. And yet another is a sculptured wood screened room. All are complete with fresh linened queen size bed, hammocks, covered natural wood decks, solar lights and private fresh water bathroom facilities. In various nooks and crannies built into the hills and surrounded by garden, are your fresh water shower, basin, and toilet. You are showering in the outside gardens; it is completely private; there are only 5 sites on 50 acres. There is also a mirror for the primpers among us. Solar powered lights illuminate your garden shower area and table and deck areas. There is a place to hang your clothes and wicker chairs, table, lounge chair, bench and bedside tables for your comfort. Individual solar reading lights are provided for those who want to drift off with their favorite novel.

The views from your hideaway are spectacular and if the sunset keeps you away from the relaxed atmosphere of the restaurant and the soothing rhythm of the water, so be it.

If it is your honeymoon, ask about the honeymoon suites. Please mention your choice in your reservation request if this "suites" you.

If you're interested in water activities we do have a Sunfish sailboat for sailing in the bay, ocean kayaks, snorkeling, and dive equipment. We'll take you on a tour of the underwater if you're certified. Our reef which is filled with beautiful tropical fish, coral and sponges, is just off the beach and can be viewed even by standing in four feet of water. For the more intrepid diver, in addition to the reef, there are caves , caverns and a 120 foot wall at the north point of our bay.

For landlubbers, or just something different, we will take you on an excursion to hidden waterfalls, a mile wide volcano, rain forest, or other islands and cays.

Tours of Nature and a Country:

Trinity Falls (8+ hours)
A short boat trip. 2 hour winding drive along and through the rugged dramatic leeward coast. 1 hour hike through tropical vegetation to a trio of falls in the middle of the island. Spectacular! Includes guide and lunch.

Rain Forest(4 hours) included for hotel guests
A short boat trip. 30 minute vehicle drive (some bumpy) to this 10,000 acre parrot reserve. Hike 2 to 2 1/2 hours through magical vegetation that touches the sky higher than you can see. River with small pools and falls in which you may bathe.

La Soufriere (9 - 10 hours)
A short boat trip. 2 hour vehicle drive through Kingstown, a busy 3rd world city and marketplace, up the windward highway. The angry Atlantic and wind swept hills contrast the tranquil leeward coastline at Petit Byahaut. A varied 2 hour hike 4,000+ feet to the mile wide crater from bamboo forests to a wind swept moonscape. Hike along the crater edge and maybe even into the crater. Then, of course, a 2 hour hike back down. This varied experience defies words.

The Falls of Baleine (6 - 7 hours)
A boat trip up the dramatic leeward coast north of Petit Byahaut. A short swim to a rocky beach and a short hike through a deep canyon along the river and pools to the high powerful falls (picture on this page). Possible sightings of Spinner Dolphins or whales - on the way, that is - not in the pools or falls.

Tobago Cays (9 hours)
Boat to waiting taxi to airport. Short flight to Union Island where you board a large sailing yacht that travels through numerous cays and islands with beach and snorkeling stop. Includes lunch.

Bequia from (taxi and ferry) Charter your own captained motor sailing yacht or a high speed power boat for up to 10 persons. (7-10 hours)
A sweet and more "touristy" island in the country. Shops and small island charm.

Bat Cave Snorkel Trip (included for hotel guests)
Located at Byahaut, so you can take one of our kayaks there and tie to our mooring, if you are a guest of Petit Byahaut, for no additional charge. Black and white diamond-shaped rocks and other patterns form a geological wonder unremarked elsewhere. From the wide shallow beginning to the 4 foot wide fissure rising twenty feet above you and 45 feet below, the trip through these caves is a challenging exciting experience for those comfortable in the water.

SCUBA (rental equipment or guided)
With your own equipment you can rent a tank and pay only for air fills. Petit Byahaut Bay offers excellent diving. There are trips to other reefs, wall, caves and caverns. Many a diver has stated this is the best diving they had ever experienced.

There are many other hikes, tours and trips. We have named the ones we most often do.
