What to expect: Consisting of six oceanfront acres, the resort offers a tranquil ambience of sea views and gardens and welcomes both couples and families. Adults dress in resortwear after dark, when lights illuminate the resort's many palm trees and a nightclub/lounge and the casino get busy. A fountain pool at the entrance and a waterfall from an open-air lobby toward the beach heighten the prevailing hush.

Amenity highlights: Washed by the turquoise sea, 300 yards of beach with thatched shades flank a rocky oceanfront section. A watersports center rents kayaks, personal watercraft, and small sailboats and offers snorkeling and diving trips. A central courtyard has a free-form pool about 100 by 100 feet and a children's pool. Two other courtyards contain cross-shaped, 20-person spa tubs in wooden pavilions that shade lounge chairs on surrounding decks.

Insider tip: Unlike many resorts that close their pools at sunset, this resort's pools remain open to 11 PM, and spa tubs can be used around the clock.
