Hickatee Cottages - Belize (Toledo District)

Intentionally small and decidedly quiet we have just four rooms, bar-restaurant, plunge pool, morning coffee delivered to your verandah, free bikes, over a mile of nature trails on site, and free visits to Fallen Stones Butterfly Farm.

Family-run, we offer friendly service, a comfortable relaxed atmosphere, excellent value for money, and a great base from which to explore this lesser-travelled corner of Belize.
Our rooms are furnished with locally made hardwood furniture, ceiling fans, and en-suite bathroom facilities. The cottage rooms have both a double and single bed to provide flexibility for couples, friends, and families. Relax in the small sitting area, or on your verandah where you can enjoy the tropical gardens and view the wildlife, and use the Cottages' 'night-sight' for nocturnal viewing. Our new suite offers something a little more special for couples, with a queen-sized bed in the bedroom, and a large lounge.

Walk over a mile of nature trails on site, cool off in the plunge pool, or explore the local area on the Cottages' free bikes.
The Toledo District combines natural beauty with cultural diversity for an unforgettable vacation experience. Hike jungle trails, kayak the rivers, or swim in one of the world’s largest cave systems. Visit ancient Maya sites, explore the villages of their descendents, and take the Cacao Trail to learn about our ancient and modern-day links with chocolate. Snorkel in the sparkling waters of the Port Honduras Marine Reserve, search for manatee and dolphins, or try your hand at sport fishing!

Toledo’s kaleidoscope of cultures is evident everywhere -- the Maya farmers and Creole ladies at PG’s bustling morning market, the evening sounds of traditional Garifuna drumming in the local bars, the distinct East Indian cuisine, traces of the US Confederate settlers, and the Mennonites in their horse-drawn buggies.

Charlie's Bar is at the heart of Hickatee Cottages. Plentiful home-cooked breakfasts and dinners (except for Wednesday evening - chef's night off!) are served either inside the bar or out on the deck, using ingredients grown on our farm and fresh seasonal product from the market in Punta Gorda. The dinner menu changes daily and we offer a selection of three dishes - usually featuring chicken, shrimp, and fish. Favourites include our special papaya seed salad dressing, tamarind chicken, coco-peanut shrimp, and salsa snook. Special diets (including diabetic and celiac), as well as personal 'likes' and 'dislikes' can easily be catered for, with advance notice.
