Castaways Beach Hotel and Resort - Dominica (Roseau)

Hiking, birdwatching, kayaking, diving, snorkeling and whale watching are just some of the activities available. This is a unique Caribbean English-speaking tropical destination.

When looking at the map of Dominica, Castaways is located about 1.5 miles north of the mouth of the Layou River, between the small villages of St. Joseph and Mero.

Ideally located, a 25-minute drive down the coast will put you at the Canefield Airport and the capital city of Roseau. It is a one-hour drive through the virgin rainforest to pick you up at Melville Hall airport. Although long, it is a beautiful drive and informative with our hiker, driver Francis Frampton.
AMENITIES:
Ocean Kayaks are available for rent from dive Castaways. Enjoy a cruise up and down the coast of Dominica. Take snorkeling gear along with you and check out your own, private snorkeling sports along the lee shore. The "sit on top" design kayaks make it easy to use the kayaks to access these nice spots and private beaches along the way. Pull the kayak up on the shore and go take dip in a fresh water river to cool off and wash the salt from the skin.

A sunfish is available for short sailing excursions from the hotel. Lessons are available. The lee shore can make for some shifty winds, but that is half of the fun. Boats with captain are available to charter. If one wants to take the family for a cruise up or down the coast (to a quaint seaside restaurant perhaps), or if a couple wants to do a romantic sunset cruise, it can all be easily arranged.
The Almond Tree restaurant, Rhum Barrel Bar and Castaways Beach Bar are the social gathering areas of the resort. The Almond Tree and Rhum Barrel are open on a daily basis and are located in the main building of the hotel. Both offer spectacular views of the ocean and sunset, giving many their first views of the famed green flash. A wide range of cuisine and tropical drinks are offered, specializing in the particular blends of spices and flavors of produce grown in Dominica.

The Castaways Beach Bar is the perfect place to relax. It is the setting for the bar-b-ques which are held on every Sunday. It is a favorite for visitors and locals alike as they are able to enjoy grilled lobster, fish or the best ribs on the island. The beach at Castaways is gaining the reputation as "thee" place to be on a Sunday afternoon.

If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or honeymoon, let us know and we will make the occasion a special one for you.

A nice option recently implemented at Castaways is the "Dine Around Dominica" option. Each week an evening excursion is planned to a different local restaurant to ensure our guests get a chance to experience some of the different cuisine the country has to offer. The excursion may entail a walk down the beach to a little local spot in the neighboring village of Mero... or it may involve hopping in the Castaways vehicle and heading off to a beachfront hangout in Portsmouth. Very reasonable rates are arranged for transportation, if necessary, depending on the location chosen.
Type: Hotel Beach Location: Beach Front (Directly on Beach/Water Front)
