BORRRING
Traveler Review By: A Gentry from Connecticut
Date of Visit: July 2005

We just returned from St. Lucia and I would not recommend the Rex to anyone.

Upon arrival to the island we got jacked by the porter for $10 to move our bags 6 feet to the taxi. Then at the resort our room was clean, but the bed had a horrible musty smell to it and I slept on the little wicker couch in the room for most of the week. I know this is the tropics and have traveled to similar islands before, but the ants were every where in our bathroom.

Then there are the pushy vendors on the beach, it is true that they will leave you alone after you tell them repeatedly that you are not interested; it was like trying to get a telemarketer off the phone, but you can't hang up on these people. If you like to dance and have a good time do not go to the Rex. The place dies after 8pm and their idea of entertainment is to sit and watch some guy play piano. Zzzzzzz We ended up buying a bottle of vodka and drinking in our room at night playing cards.

The staff is very nice, well most of them are, there were a few with a stick up their asses and it was almost like we were bothering them. I think some of the problem with the resort is that we were the only Americans there and everyone else was English. I'm sorry England but you guys wouldn't know a good time if it sat on your face and wiggled. =)

We went off the resort several times and we felt fairly safe during the day, but I wouldn't recommend it at night. It is a 3rd world country and these people are poor so watch your back. I don't know if I would go back to the island, but I do know that I will never stay at a Rex resort again.

So in closing if you want to sit on a beach and do nothing at night, go there. If you want to have a good time at night do not go there. you will be in your room most of the time. By the way what is with the men having to wear pants at night. It was like 400 degrees and we got turned away from one place because my husband was wearing tailored shorts and a linen shirt.

Re: BORRRING - by: lorraine
There is one thing to dish the dirt on the resort, but to be blatantly rude about english people - that is out of order. If you want rudeness you americans are at the top of the list for this, along with spitefulness, in your face attitude and rudeness. We heard so called civilised americans shouting out rude comments to a couple who we saw get married at the Regency. That is gutter level rudeness and something which us english would not dream of doing. The regency is like you americans over advertised and completely over the top.

Re: BORRRING - by: Lucy
The Rex St Lucian is anything but boring. The staff are all friendly none of them have 'stick's up thier asses'.
Who cares if all the people there were English I am Scottish and nobody had a problem with me.
Maybe people didn't like you because you were rude about people from a different country maybe they people were pretty kind.

Anyone who says the Rex is rubbish needs thier head looked at.

Re: BORRRING - by: John
I don't think you actually have a right to complain about English people. I mean you can talk your american. The first time I was in St Lucia I shared a bus to our resort with americans and my family and I tried to make conversation and we got totally ignored AND so who cares if St Lucia is a third world country it is a lovely island. But no you americans had to go yuck, gross, etc.
So if all your going to do is critcise English people just because you didn't like your hotel I suggest you go somewhere where there are no English people and if you don't then don't you dare criticise us.

Ignore this review because it is UTTER CRAP.

Re: BORRRING - by: Sophie
Listen.. Have your never heard of venturing out of the hotel and exploring the island. How rude are you disrespecting English people, I bet your the sort of person that espected special treatment because they are a small developing island with less privilages than yourself. If you don't want experience beauty and culture I suggest you stay your arse at home and moan about the "third world" countries from your over-expensive sofa!!

Re: BORRRING - by: Debbie B
Sorry, I totally disagree with you and all you have said. I am an American. Yes, there is a large amount of British guests, the company that owns the Rex, I believe, is based in England. Did you try talking to anyone, the English, the islanders? We love St. Lucia, have stayed at the Rex 3 times and going back shortly. Love the people of the island and have made some lasting friendships. Have also stayed at other locations, all of which were very nice, but for some reason like the Rex.
Also, look up 3Rd world country. Yes, they are poor, but not 3rd world. Yes, it is laid back, but we like that. Have also made friends with the vendors. You are on their homeland. Try to understand their ways. Sorry you had a bad time.
