Royal by Rex
Traveler Review By: E Merrick from New York
Date of Visit: January 2007
I spent one week at Royal with my two teenagers this month, January 2007 ,and we had a gorgeous time. The beach is beautiful, well run, quite private, despite the fact that all beaches in St Lucia are public. The food is fine, the beach restaurant, The Mariner,is of great value and quality. The suite was spacious and cleaned immaculately. The staff was somewhat reserved but warmed up when coaxed. The spa is very accessible for daily use, sauna, steam room etc. in addition to all de luxe services.
negatives: Room service and restaurant service in general were quite slow (but other a few restaurants in town were even slower) and the Epicurean Restaurant did not at all live up to its promise nor to its price. The radio did not work, the TV was capricious, but we assumed it was due to the island reception or lack of it. The water in our shower never heated up sufficiently, so we resorted to going to the spa for quick showers. Nonetheless, we loved our stay and would definitively come back. The island is interesting with the smoldering vulcano and hot muddy spring baths, amazing scenery and - above all - authenticity.
