We found the El Dorado Royale much 'as advertised'. The service was great, staff accommodating. We avoided the time share session by 'just saying no' and were left alone in that regard.

Overall we found the food to be very good, and while not 'gourmet', it was great to be able to eat at different restaurants every night. A lot of guest we spoke with really liked the steak house (because of the portions!), but our favourites were the Mexican and Japanese. We worked our way around the smaller portions by having a couple of appetizers each.

The snorkeling at the hotel's beach, to the left of the pier, is quite good. Not a massive amount of fish - but tons of variety. Because of the coral (mostly dead), we'd recommend beach shoes for swimming/snorkeling to the left of the pier - to the right, they wouldn't be necessary.

A 10-minute walk along the beach (to the right, facing the water) is a lovely beach - Playa Secreto, where it is great to play in the surf. Beach shoes or beach sandals recommended for the walk there.

Would recommend spending the extra $ for a Casita - they are at the quieter end of the property (if that is your thing) and it is easier to make reservations for the restaurants.

This is not a property for people looking to 'party'. It is definately a place for newlyweds and the over 35 crowd. Perfect for us. If you have any questions, we'd be happy to respond. (r_curry@telus.net)
