We had a great time at the hotel, we were looking for a nice relaxing holiday somewhere without children and no wild noisy bars late into the night, boring but true. Booking the restaurants sounded like it was going to be a hassle but we were able to book for 3 nights at a time so you could plan in advance what you wanted, which surely isn't that inconvenient and I didn't find it ruined the spontaneity of the holiday, infact with 2 new restaurants being built for next yr and only a few new rooms being added the a la carte option will probably be even better next yr. As a rule all the food was great, tho we found the beach snack bar/Steakhouse not that great compared to the rest,contary to popular opinion. Rooms were fine tho they are refurbishing the air con in some as they are slightly damp with condensation (sl musty smelling clothes in the wardrobe)but the cleaning was good and the maid di some towel origami and also changed the sheets and replaced the used room towels with new.
Beach was fine and clean and there were no breakers because of the large sandbags which made the snorkelling good and also allowed easy proper sea swimming if you preferred, tho the coral was sharp if you stood on it, just swim out from the v shallow water and it was fine! Pools were religiously cleaned and apart from the main one and one of the casita pools were mostly empty. The gardens/grounds were always being tended to and watered (bit smelly as straight from the jungle pools but no hardship)Spa was good tho we didn't chance the beach candle lit couple massage as we already had enough mossie bites and the weather was a bit frisky at times, tho it did look v romantic! swing bar was a good laugh tho the band intro music was strange(!) and they had a somewhat restricted playlist, think Celine Dion type or 80s ballads, and the keyboard player made us laugh with pain at times! Kareoke, please choose wisely otherwise be embarrassed!
Casitas looked lovely but people were attempting to upgrade on arrival and they'd all been booked in advance so they were disappointed, don't believe your agent if they say you'll get a 'free/cheap' upgrade at the resort cause the caistas were incredibly popular and there just weren't any left. Avoid the Exotic Travel Club guys (Alex is Mr Friendly on arrival and really isn't part of the hotel staff itself) They are the Timeshare people and unless ou want the 100$ spa voucher/candlelit dinnerthat much you'll end up in 1.5-2hrs of blah about their wonderful travel saving scheme yada yada, we just cancelled our appt and had no problems from them about it
Overall tho great place, we'd go back next yr if we could afford it.
