Overall Great Trip
Traveler Review By: Anonymous from Toronto
Date of Visit: July 2004
My husband and I just came back yesterday from the Allegro Playacar. We stayed for one week. This is our fourth trip to the Playa del Carmen area so you can obviously tell that we love it. Overall, the resort was great. The food was plentiful and good. There were two a la carte restaurants (Mexican and Italian) - we did not go to either during our stay. The reason being that you had to make advance reservations for a specific time and being on vacation we did not want to commit ourselves to any timetables so we ate at the main buffet restaurant during our stay. As far as drinking water goes, we never had any problems at all. Our maid (who was absolutely fabulous!!) left us at least 2-3 bottles of water in our room daily along with 2-3 coffee packets. We also found small surprises in our room every day - she always decorated our beds with an array of flowers daily and would hang the curtains various ways and tie them back with flowers. There were also a few evenings when we came back to our room and even found our beds turned down! She was superb! (important note: a little tipping goes a long way - I realize the resort is all inclusive but let us not forget that these people clean OUR mess up after us! My belief is that showing a little extra gratitute goes a very long way as we witnessed first hand).
We found all of the staff very friendly and helpful. Everyone always had a smile for us and a kind word. Even though we could see how busy they were and what long hours they put in (we normally saw the same faces from 7 am to 11 pm!!) they always made time to come over and ask us how we were enjoying our stay and asking us about where we come from and how we like Mexico, etc. Just absolutely beautiful people! (that's why we keep going back!!)
The activities and entertainment were good. There was always something going on. Whether or not you choose to participate is up to you.
The resort grounds are stunning. So lush and clean. The beach is georgeous! I have to stay we took several walks along the beach just to scope out other resorts and none compared to Allegro's beach! The best part of Allegro is that the main pool is practically directly on the beach. We often hopped from pool to beach all day! You are not really committed to one or the other - this way you have the best of both. None of the other resorts that we saw have that. A few years ago my husband and I honeymooned at the Iberostar which is abound a 10-15 minute walk south of the Allegro and the beach was nothing like the Allegro.
Also, there is a little pizza place and snack bar by the pool/beach so you don't even have to change from you bathing suit to eat lunch. You could just each your lunch at the beach/pool.
The other best bonus feature that we found is that the town of Playa del Carmen (which you must see if you go there) is within walking distance. My husband and I walked into town several times (20-25 minute walk). There is also a little plaza about a 5 minute walk across the street from the resort. This way you are not committed to staying on the resort the whole time - you can get out and do things and enjoy the people and culture. It is very safe and very clean. We were often off of the resort property late in the evening walking around and never felt unsafe for even a moment.
I can go on and on but won't. The only thing I can say is that I would definitely recommend it and I know for sure that my husband and I will be back again. Go, have a great time and remember, it's all what you make it!
