I recently had the misfortune of going to a resort in Mexico. It was called Occidental Allegro Playacar and it was sold as a great 4 star resort. The resort looked fabulous on the net, all the reviews, pictures, descriptions were Great! Once I got there, the resort left a lot to be desired. In fact, it was a complete DISASTER!!!

The rooms were shabby motel rooms with very very thin walls. I could hear my next door neibhours too clearly for my liking.It was very dark and smelly in there as well.

The resort itself was fairly dirty, and poorly designed. Walkways were dirty, service fromt he staff was non-existent. I didnt' even know if there were any Activity personel working at the hotel.

The beach was nice, however instead of palm trees they had these thatched mushroom umbrellas. They're fine in general, however these ones were infected with GIant-sized fruit flies, or some such thing, and they were always landing on you, and biting you. Not a single peaceful moment.

The resort had a problem with their drinks. Straws it seems are a rare commodity here. NO straws. Anywhere in the hotel. This hotel also doesn't skimp on the amount of ice (probably NOT purified) that they put into the drink, so the ONLY way anyone can drink, is if they use a fork to first toss all the ice out of the glass.

Now, I say probably not purified, since we got sick. Not a pleasant experience. Thank god for Immodium.

When we were complaining to our Sunquest Rep, a saleperson from the parent company of the hotel (Occidental) walked by, and hearing our complaints, wanted to listen in more in depth. When we told him that this was a very poor 4star resort, he scoffed and stated that the company doesn't recognize it as anything higher than a 3 star!

We then requested a switch over from our rep, as she offered it to us. She actually informed us, that we weren't the first to have thought the Allegro was bad enough to get a transfer out of. How ridiculous that it is still being sold as a 4 star.

NEVER EVER travel to an Occidental property in general, and the Allegro in particular!
