Punta Cana - Just OK
Traveler Review By: Anonymous from Washington, DC
Date of Visit: January 2007
This was my first all-inclusive, and to be fair to the resort, they probably aren't my style.
Positives: Rooms - we had a nice room with a private, covered patio overlooking the pool. The room was clean and housekeeping did a nice job cleaning it daily and turning the bed down at night. Grounds - pretty landscaping and the free range turkeys, chickens, and peacock add charm to the experience.
Staff - there were many lovely staff members who went out of there way to assist us during our stay. On one occasion a staff member helped me carry some drinks over to a group of friends.
Beach Huts - Nice ambiance on the beach. You can relax on a lounge chair under a grass hut... provided you get up at 6:00am to reserve it.
Negatives: Communication - I speak a little Spanish and sometimes it was difficult if they didn't speak any English - especially trying to order room service.
Mixed Drinks - By default, most bartenders don't put the alcohol in your frozen drink unless you request it.
Staff - I honestly can't remember ever being treated so rudely by bar staff. The pool and beach bars in particular. However, the staff at the piano bar in the lounge were always fabulous.
Food - This is what ruined the trip for me. It is barely edible. Unless you enjoy buffets and think Applebees and other low-end chain restaurants are delicious, then be forewarned. One would think pineapples would be delicious here, not so - the worst fruit I have ever eaten. Many of us became sick at the end of the trip and we didn't drink the water. We've narrowed it down to the tasteless, cold hamburgers that sat outside in a bin next to the bar for hours or one of the lunch casseroles, salads, mixed ingredient offerings, etc... that were probably composed of leftovers from the previous nights' dinners.
Wine: If you like wine, you won't like the free stuff offered by the resort. They have a decent wine list, if you wish to pay for a bottle.
