Almost There

Not a 5 star property as it claims to be rated. My wife and I have been resort hopping in the Mexican Carribean for the past 4 years and we can honestly say that Occidental is almost there. As far as the property layout, landscaping, and gardening... it is top notch. But be warned!! To get to the beach, you must cross a bridge over a swamp/forest area...MOSQUITO HEAVEN. It is imperative that you bring OFF! The one and only store at the resort never has any in stock. The beach.. very nice clean swimming area and great for snorkeling. As far as the staff is concerned, they were very friendly, but we felt the resort was very understaffed. Many times we would have to sit ourselves, and on some occasions, we were half way done with our meal before we would get our drinks. If you are not lounging at the pool, you will not get served drinks on the beach. The food was nothing special. Just your basic buffet food. We did find it a little monotonous, basically the same food everyday. All in all, it wasn't the best experience if you were expecting a 5 star pampered vacation, but it was a good experience. We would recommend it...but not to be compared to a 'true' world class resort. Occidental is almost there.
