Posada Arco Iris was dissapointment

The hotel came recommended from friends who had stayed there 5 years agao. We looked at the pictures on the website and thought it would be nice. We knew it was not an expensive place ( some others are going for $80 US or more a night). For just 4 nights to have a place to sleep we did not want to spend that much money. But the pictures are not showing all the rooms. The place is getting old, the rooms are starting to fall apart. There were places that had not been swept for days or months (behind doors), cobwebs behind the doors, bees nesting in the woodwork outside the door, mold in the bathroom, ants in the kitchen, a ceiling fan that was set to blow up, not down on the bed, a stand fan that only rotated and could not be positioned to blow where you wanted, the bedspreads were stained and the floors were not clean looking. Other guests complained there was no lights or they had toilet problems. I think someone should point out that it is hard to clean floors with dirty mops. The upstairs apartment another couple stayed in had wood floors and looked more like the pictures on the website. I know that you get what you pay for, but the pictures on the site look more like the new building they are building just up the road. On lady we met said she complained and was offered a room at the other place. We did not want to be that far from the beach. The new place, the house of the orchid in English is right on the rocks and faces the other bay..no sandy beach rigth across the road.We decided to stay because the beach is close by (right across the road) and the restaurant is excellent, the people are freindly, you can borrow the sea kayaks for free, they sometimes put their pet monkeys and parrots out to visit with and the hostess was skilled at dealing with other customers that had forgotten to cancel their reservations. If the fans had worked, maybe we would have stayed cooler at night. We asked for them to be fixed, and they were not. We had no hot water for one whole day. So we did get what we paid for and only that. I think we will save abit of frustration and get something a bit more expensive next time. There was a family there with small a small child. I think the place is too close to the road and has too many stairs and traffic and a bar with loud music at night, if you stayed right over the bar it would not be a family place.
