This is an instance when the ineternet actually has become a deceiving tool. The place was touted as a PADI 5 Star Resort. They have better places in central Mississippi!!!!
The place 'aka resort' is 150 yards from the beach. We had to walk down a public alley to reach the resort. The rooms are dark and very small. The AC did not work. This is especially bad when we agreed to pay additional $10.00/day to use it! At the fourth day the owner finally replaced the AC with a functional one. He instructed the maid to turn it off when we're not around. So; it was the cat & mouse game of we turn it on & someone turns it off. It was always extremely hot when we came back from the morning dives. It was very annoying when we got into the room and it was hot because the AC was turned off.
I got a few bites from the bed bugs. This coupled with the geckos and other noise makers made sleeping a full night a wish and a dream. Alcohol helped because we slept motionless in spite of the pain.
We were never asked to present our diving C cards at any time. We're surprised when our Nitrox tanks showed up before we got certified. When we inquired about it we were told '...you've already scheduled to take the class so it OK to start diving using Nitrox before getting certified...' Very unprofessional. Of course; this is at an additional $20.00/day for the Nitrox tanks. The tanks capacity averaged around 2550 PSI.
The boat has no dock and it was always a chore to climb it with 50 lbs of gear in 5 feet of water. On our second day the ropes got wrapped around the propellers. An employee had to swim some 200 yards to deliver a knife to cut the ropes. There were no tools whatsoever on the boat. The following day 5 divers (2 couples and a solo) did not bother to join us.
The boat trips were very short. We did not mind that because the diving is good. The staff are nice.
It is wise to buy some food or drinks at the beach's little store (independent) so that you may use their chairs. Otherwise; the cost for a chair is $5.00/day.
The beaches are nice, the food is good and the people are great. I would go again to Roatan but not Bananarama with the current owner.
