Oh my! Unless you desire to live the lives of the survivors on Lost or survivor island- Please do yourself a favor and seek alternative! I am REALLY big into researching our vacations that only come once a year! We are use to the beauty and high class of Grand Cayman but decided to 'rough it' a bit and try Roatan. The island is a bit behind modernization but untouched, and BEAUTIFUL! BUT we were very mislead by BANANARAMA's web-site and write ups on sites such as this! When we arrived at our 'hut' (really) we found a dilapitated old bed that springs were poking out of and it was pushed together to simulate a 'king' look except for the wooden rails down the middle of each side. The A/C was a joke! We paid $10 extra per night and it cooled the wooden box (our hut) down to about 90 degrees from 95! There were workers that arrived each day from the island at 7am bringing saws and hammers that were working right outside our windows- which were constucted of wood shutters- no glass here people! We booked and paid for 7 nights but BAILED out of sheer desperation after 3 and paid full price to stay at Paradise Villas across the dirt road! This place is truly beautiful and wonderful! I had seen it on the website but wanted to do the 'rustic' thing! PLEASE don't kid yourself into thinking rustic is a GOOD thing! Even Paradise Villas even had cold water showers- the island is still a work in progress BUT!!! The island is TOTALLY worth it! As long as you are a diver or snorkeler- you will be VERY pleased! The reef on the beach from the hotel is unbelievable day and especially NIGHT! The restuarants on West Bay beach are excellent - definitely try Los Rocas as much as possible! We went into West Bay a few times by water taxi and had a great time as well! Email me if you have any ? I wouldn't want ANYONE to make to same mistake we did! dharris100@cfl.rr.com
