I returned to the States on Friday, July 4th, four days earlier than scheduled. After four wonderful days at Pico Bonito I arrived at Anthony’s Key Resort to find a dilapidated and decaying property run by a staff that was unfriendly with a significant amount of attitude.

The room was filthy with dead bugs all over the floor. The sheets and towels were threadbare with a multitude of various stains with unimaginable origins. The bedspread was also stained and pilled; all of these linens had to have been from the original days of the “resort”.

The screens in the room were old, corroded and did not fit against the windows allowing one inch gaps or more. Obviously, there were not many barriers allowing a variety of flying insects to bite me all night.

The bathroom area was quite unpleasant. The shower stall was so stained, I could not tell what the original color may have been. All of the hardware was corroded. When I opened the bathmat, a dozen plus dead bugs fell out of the center. After the sun set and I turned the light on in the bathroom, hundreds of ants scattered.

The food was inedible. When I arrived they were serving lunch which was steam tables of slop served on a single paper plate so thin it was hard to hold the plate without two hands. Dinner is not worth mentioning.

I had arrived with the expectation of joining the two day dolphin institute only to be informed that it was only offered on Thursday & Friday. Having arrived on Thursday I had already missed one day and planning to leave on Tuesday made it impossible to participate and enjoy what I had come for.

As you can understand I was quite disappointed and could not possibly envision myself staying in this environment for any length of time and decided to depart the next morning for San Pedro Sula and subsequently New York. My other option would have been to find another hotel however, having already spent a significant amount for this portion of the trip I could not envision any additional expenditure.
