Occidental Grand Pineapple Beach Hotel, Antigua
Traveler Review By: Stephen Dix from London, United Kingdom
Date of Visit: August 2006
I have read many reviews on the hotel and so far they have never come to a definate result. So mine will.
The resort is beautiful, I opted for the Ocean Front Room (not the cheapest or the most expensive available)and it was fantastic! The view from the balcony was spectacular with panoramic views over Long Bay whilst you watched the Pelicans, Frigate Birds and Ospreys hunt in these shallow waters. If you are into snorkeling this is the best place i have been so far. The water is clear and there are coral reefs just off of the beach.
The hotel has 180 rooms each generously fitted with a huge bed (Super King) or two double beds on request. Each has a shower, cable TV, Free safe, Phone... and all other main appliences. Being an all inclusive resort there are a choice of 5 Rsteraunts / Snack Bars. These are the Topaz Resteraunt, A La Carte Resteraunt, Snack Bar, Mary's Outhouse (Ribs and Chicken) and the Pineapple Grill all Free!
The bar is all free including premium drinks.
There are also 2 swimming pools one for kids and one purely for adults. All non-motorized watersports are free (hobie cats, canoes, snorkeling etc) however a seperate company can provide you with Jet Skis.
Overall the hotel, the island and the beaches are superb and do not listen to any other bad reviews i am the latest person to go here and they have really tidied themselves up. For one reason. The hotel is likely to be sold to Sandals within the year so the upkeep is very solid however mine or your holiday is/was affected.
One good thing to do though is hire a car. The taxi prices are extreme $75US to go 12 miles into St.Johns (£40)or $150Us to go to English Harbour alternitivly hire a car for $135 whilst you are there (2 days)
