Review: Sweet Lime really does have the Sweetest Lime (Hangout)
My husband and I were on vacation in Trinidad when we decided to check out what we were told was the hottest entertainment strip in the country, Ariapita Avenue. Known as the Avenue, it’s located just on the outskirts of the capital. We came across a really interesting open air restaurant called Sweet Lime and we were attracted by the fabulous live entertainment going on and apparently we weren’t the only ones as there was a sizable crowd outside of the establishment. The restaurant was having a special event, called Wine and Jazz, which is held monthly. On entering this warm, casually elegant restaurant, we were greeted by a friendly hostess and directed to our table.
We were given excellent complimentary wine and a sizeable cheese plate to start. We delved into a creamy Caribbean Fish Chowder and Saltfish Accra (like a fried ball of salted fish, flour and seasoning)…delish! My husband ordered the Yara Bay King Fish, a really generous sized grilled kingfish steak with sweltering steamed veggies and hot out of the oven loaded baked potato. I ordered the curry lover’s meal, which I naturally fell in love with too. The chicken was very well seasoned in the local way and cooked to a tender perfection.
The prices were very reasonable and we are too excited about our next trip there. They have another location in La Romaine, South Trinidad and a website too – www.sweetlime.co.tt
Price: US$11-20
Favorite Dish: The Yara Bay King Fish, a really generous sized grilled kingfish steak with sweltering steamed veggies and hot out of the oven loaded baked potato.
