Every day fresh fish arrive at La Choza's Kitchen Door, delivered by local fisherman. La Choza regularly buys only the best Red Snapper (Huachinango), Wahoo, Mahi-Mahi (Dorado), Shrimp (Camarón), Lobster (Langosta) and Conch (Caracol).
Our foods are cooked in the traditional way; slow cooking to allow the flavors to blend; producing a dish like nothing else available. Chicken in Black Sauce (Relleno Negro), for instance, calls for Chicken slow-cooked in a sauce of many fresh and dried spices and herbs.
Location/Directions: La Choza is easy to find, being located just five minutes from the Ferry Dock. Leave the Ferry, walk one block South (towards the BIG FLAG), then turn left onto Adolfo Rosado Salas two blocks until you come to La Choza. If you prefer to walk thru the pedestrian Plaza, go straight ahead from the Ferry Dock for two blocks, then turn Right thru the Plaza on Ave 5 Sur.
Additional Info: La Choza Restaurant began in 1989 by Doña Eliza Espinosa and her Family from Guanajuato, Mexico. With six tables, Mama Elisa and her son Jorge and daughters ELisa, Rosario and Teresa quickly made a name for themselves for serving real homestyle Mexican Food. Using only classic recipes from Doña Eliza's mother, the restaurant soon became a favorite around the world for reasonably priced breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night snacks.
There are now 14 Salvatierras working as cooks, waiters and managers. They are very careful to keep authentic the Centro Mexican Cuisine that has made La Choza famous among Cozumeleños, Divers and Cruise Ship Passengers. Live music often can be heard from the Mexican trio which often serenades guests in the comfortable and relaxed atmosphere under the rustic palapa of La Choza.
We now have 50 tables and can easily seat any size group. Consider La Choza the next time you are looking for an intimate dinner, a family gathering or simply good old fashioned food cooked by a family who really cares!

Fodor's Yucatan Guide, Food and Wine Magazine, Frommer's Budget Guide and Bon Appetit Magazine have all written rave reviews about this place.
