Location Overview / Where is Martinique located?: Martinique is a Caribbean island between the Caribbean Sea and North Atlantic Ocean, north of Trinidad and Tobago. It is an overseas département (département d'outre-mer, or DOM) of France. Like the other DOMs, Martinique is also one of the 26 régions of France (as a région d'outre-mer), and an integral part of the Republic.
Business: Banks are open Monday to Friday, 8am-12 noon and 2:30-4:30pm. The main banks are Credit Martiniquais, Banque des Antilles Francaises, Banque Nationale de Paris, Credit Agricole, and the Société Générale. Shops open weekdays 8.30am-6pm, with a long break for lunch. Payment cards accepted in major tourist areas.
