Lovely Oasis
By: Anonymous from Chicago
Date of Visit: February 2003
We had been scheduled to stay at MayaTulum and discovered, when we arrived, that while it may be great for groups that resort lacked a lot of ammenities and services and still was vastly overpriced.
So we walked down the beach and discovered a number of other, lovely resorts and hotels ranging from backpackers on the beach to grass huts on up though hotels with a/c and pools.
We settled on Los Liros. For less than $100/night we had a huge, beautiful room with a sitting area and veranda with a hammock, plus a full bathroom with tub and shower. The room had an air contionner that we used some nights. The service was friendly, polite and helpful. It has room for only about 55 guests (although they are builidng more) and it reminded us of an EM Forrester novel where interesting people meet in a hotel and share bits of their lives togehter and then move on.
The beach was lovely and the overall area was romantic and very enjoyable.
The restaurant leaves something to be desired. It is only adequate. Happy hour, but drinks were pretty watered down. Brakfast is included and we never ate there for other meals, but many hidden treasures in the area for food and entertainment can be easily sought out.
A car is pretty much a must to get to some of the places for enterainment, food and activities, but be aware that the last mile or so of road down to Los Lirios is unpaved and rutted.
