Worst stay ever! @ Dreams Tulum

let me just say this was far most the worst trip ever!

*No air conditioning in our rooms!
*lights didnt work, then the staff comes to fix the light bulbs he dropped the bulbs where it almost hit my 7 year old brother in the head..glass everywhere on the floor.
then they switched us to a room that smelt like mildew. Stunk up the whole room!and still the air conditionier was broke....they said they were having a problem with the unit...but when its 100% out, and your paying all this money. I think you deserve to be in a nice cold room!!
I say the best part that is there are the waitors and food and the bars and staff at the resturants and bars...they were soooooo nice! ANd the spa there was very relaxing and the beach was nice too, make sure to bring sum water shoes tho! But honestly after our family vacation was basically runied by switching to a differnt room almost every day because of soooo many problems wrong with the room! and...( even losing our suite cases while switching us) ha, i really really suggest not going here...this hotel does not deserve a 5 star!

Good- Dreams Tulum, That is what it is. It is beautiful and very relaxing. The hotel includes snorkeling equiptment and if you speak Spanish they will give you tips on where the best locations are, they also include a bunch of other activities that are scheduled so that you don't miss out if you want to do something else before hand.

We had a freak storm that broke our Window in but the staff was very good and got us into a new room right after the storm. Thier Buffet is perfect for every kind of person from Fruits to steak yo fish. They offer plenty of bars (even poolside) and places to eat. My friends got married right on the beach and the photos came out spectacular. There are photographers that walk around and take pictures of everyone so you can purchase them later on.

You have a different variety of ppl- friends, families, Honeymooners. High end alcohol for the drinkers out there. Even though your in a resort you get a taste of Mexico's heritage (they do shows all dressed up in Mayan outfits).

Bad - The snorkeling place didn't always have equiptment for everyone, but they did have equiptment to buy if you really want to enjoy the water. After the freak storm we were placed on the first floor and the suite has a window out of the restroom so you have to hang a towel so ppl can't watch you showering. They have vendors that come out everyday, awsome collection of items but if you walk by they pretty much hound you. Tee only item I think I paid a fair amount was with the guy that painted with his fingers on ceramic tiles.

Where can I start, there was no hot water in our room, and after running the water for at least thirty minutes it then turned slightly warm but oh, wait its not even potable water is is sea water with chlorine mixed in , there was a big sighn on the sink that said do not drink the water, even motel six has drinkable water.

Dreams Tulum websight does not mention that they are renovating and that the sound of a jack hammer would be the most prevalant sound of your stay.

When we arrived we were place in a crappy hotel room instead of the suite we paid for. After several days I politely asked why we weren't placed in the room we booked and I was told that I hadn't booked the junior suite but the deluxe room I was currently in, when I produced a copy of my itinerary showing a junior suite paid in full, they the tried to tell me ,after blatently lying , that my crappy little room with a quasi functional A/C unit was a upgrade because it had an ocean view at this point a gave up because I did not want to loose it and cause a scene so I just left and tried to enjoy my stay

Please note that the waitstaff and service staff were all of exceptional quality , the food was good, you must tip the bartenders heavily if you want any liquor in your drinks but with the exception of the 3rd world living quarters the resort was wonderfull.

Great Resort wonderfull food, exception service staff.
The hotel had no hot water, sometimes if you let the shower run for 30 minutes it would get lukewarm.
Dreams overbooks just like the airlines and we were bumped from the room we booked to a crappy little hotel room and were told it was an "upgrade" .

Let me start by saying that before I went to Dreams Tulum I was honestly scared by the reviews on this board... then during my stay I realized what kind of a&&holes and rednecks were writing the reviews... the hotel is ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY AMAZING!!!

Such a professional service and wide and hearty smiles of ALL THE STAFF!!!

Our room was a some sort of Junior Suite... jacuzzi, shower, ocean and pool view, excellent bed and turbo powered air conditioning...

THe food was so great that I didnt know what to do after I got it (to eat it or take a picture of it - so I did both!!!!)

the bar was LOADDDDDED!!! any and every drink is available...

I even calculated - what my wife and I drank and ate during our 6day stay (and we normally do not drink much) was worth at least $1000 in Chicago...

So message to all happy people... go to this resort you will not regret it... The only small downfall is that it takes about 1 hr and 45 min from the airport to the resort but believe me IT IS WORTH IT!!!

so my message to all those a&&holes who wrote bull crap about DREAMS TULUM : why dont you all pay $5000 per person and go to Monaco or Monte Carlo - then you would have a rigth to complain.
I can bet two of my salaries that your home is in far worse shape than this hotel ...

Sonny From Chicago...
DREAMS TULUM - we love you guys!!!! you are the best!!!

This was my first trip to the Cancun, Tulum Area. I researched quite a lot before settled for the Dreams in Tulum for much needed rest. The main reason I selected Dreams because of the rating and reading all the review from previous people that went there. All gave it 5 stars rating. In addition, it was close by the Tulum Ruin, which was about 2 miles away. You can walk from the resort to the ruin on the beach if you prefer. The resort is clean and well maintaince. However, it's in the middle of the jungle and there are lots of mosquitoes. They seems to attack at night the most. Every night, I stay up at least 1 hr to make sure I kill all the mosquitoes. The first night I squashed 10 of them. They came in when the cleaning crew open the door to make up the room. Plus, the water in the restroom is saltwater. So you will brush your teeth, and shower with SALTWATER. Make sure to bring your own bath towels. The one provides there looks quite used. They do provide beach towels so you don't have to bring any. One big disappointment was the beach. There are lots of seaweeds around the main beach. There are only a small area where it's comfortable to swim in the ocean. Make sure to bring beach shoes if you plan to swim. The other thing that bother us was the specialty restaurants. The Asian, French has only about 24 seats and most of the time you have to wait 20 minutes to an hour to eat. Otherwise the food is reasonable good. They do mean it when it's all inclusive. You can get as much drinks and food, even room service. They also have a small fridge in the room stocks with soft drinks , juices and beers. The employees are quite friendly and they try very hard to service you.
We make some friends with people all over the world who was vacationing there. Most from US, some from Europe and they were all very friendly.
One big tip: Exchange some money to peso if you plan to shop and take minivan around. At the airport it was $1 dollar=$10.90 Pesos.(You can exchange on your way out of to the taxi, shuttle area) At Playa De Carmen it was $10.50, the resort is $10.30 and at Tulum Ruin is $10.00 Pesos.
One second big tip: If you plan to take the minivan (recommended) ask the driver first how much to take you to the desination, then pay him by pesos and you will save a little bit each time. It added up by the end of the trip if you travel often. We got cheated the first trip on the minivan, it was supposed to be 1 dollar from Dreams to the Ruins, but the driver got out and told us it was $2 per person. After that, we always ask first. With many people around he can't lied.
Third big tip: If you travel to Playa De Carmen to shop, becareful of people hand out brochure and tell you they have bargain to cruises and parks. They all try to sell you time share and you have to spend at least 2 hrs to hear their sell pitch. Lucky for us, we read from another preview and got out of the sale pitch early on.
I would be hesistant to stay here again.

Terrible

I read the reviews and I was surprised that people gave such good reviews and made comments like it was better than super 8, hot water is not needed in Mexico, and the sewage smell is not that bad if you have a candle. I guess I expect more from an all inclusive vacation like, hot water, air conditioning, and a room that does not smell like raw sewage. If you have ever been to a nice all inclusive resort before, you will be disappointed in this one. If this is your first all inclusive, then you will probably not realize what you are missing. When I pay for an all inclusive, I expect some level of comfort and service.

We arrived and found that our room was not available but we were being offered a new room and were actually the first guests to stay in that room. We soon discovered that was because the room was still being built. We had to enter our room through the sliding glass patio door and the bell boy dropped our bags and was on his way. On initial inspection we found there were no curtains on the patio so everyone had a clear view of our room, the front door was screwed shut because there was construction on the other side of the door. There was no safe, radio, or soap, and the toilet was not fastened to the ground so water spewed out from the base when you flushed. We immediately went to the assistant manager since the general manager had already left for the day. She informed us that there were no rooms available and that the hotel was overbooked. We were offered a transfer to Dreams Cancun and a few free nights. That was not acceptable as we were with a 26 member wedding party at the resort. We were offered a bottle of Champaign and told that they would speak with the GM and fix everything in the morning. The next morning we spoke with the GM and found he was still unaware of our problem. Finally transferred us to a nicer room with an upgrade across from our original room. Still no hot water, lost power several times, and the view was construction all around. During our stay we watched as the hotel checked new guests into our old room, acted totally surprised that the room was unfinished, and transferred them to a new room the next day. They used that unfinished room as a buffer to place new guests while they waited for others to check out.

Service is not good compared to other all inclusives. I have been to Beaches and Sandals resorts which are more expensive but so much better. At Beaches and Sandals tipping is not allowed which is my idea of all inclusive. I don't want to carry cash or a wallet in my swim suit, just a plastic room key. At Dreams tipping is expected and will determine the level of service you receive. I don't think they pay the staff very well because the service was poor in most areas. I was skipped a few times in line at the bar while they serviced someone with cash in hand. Another complaint is that some menu items like lobster, are not included in the all inclusive and you have to pay for those items. I have never heard of an all inclusive charging more for any food item. The dining areas were also some of the hottest areas in the resort. No air, just fans with little circulation.

Of the 26 members in the wedding party, half had to switch rooms due to terrible accommodations (we were not the only one to get an unfinished room), unbearable smell, no air, or lack of power. Everyone I spoke with did not have hot water the entire time we were there. They constantly ran out of towels at the pool and we had to wait for them to wash more. If you got up before 8 a.m. and walked the beach, you would find the bars still covered in dishes from the night before and that general clean up was finished around 9. Most other resorts I have been to were spotless the next morning so you did not have to witness or wait for tables to be bused.

This is the first resort I have been to that closes the pools at night (7:00 PM). The reason we were given is because they dump so many chemicals in there each night that it is not really safe to swim. You always have the beach but if you don’t have some sort of water shoes you won't make it more than a few feet out. I stayed a few miles up the road on another trip (El Dorado) and the beach was perfect for snorkeling or swimming. Here you could not really do either because the water was too rough or the bottom was covered in rocks.

I would not recommend this resort unless you are looking for a discount all inclusive and you have never stayed in a decent place before. El Dorado is just up the road, a little more expensive initially, but after you factor in paying extra for food and tipping, it comes out about the same except you will receive much better service and accommodations.
