This area invites you to explore, enjoy, relax and learn, with its nature reserves, theme parks, outstanding archaeological areas, deserted beaches, pools of cool, crystal-clear fresh water (cenotes), marinas, small villages and developing towns. Another well-kept secret of the Mayan Riviera is the Great Mayan Reef, which stretches from the Yucatán peninsula as far as Honduras and is the second largest barrier reef in the northern hemisphere. Coral formations all along 680 kilometres make this reef, full of cenotes, an irresistible temptation for any diving enthusiast. This is a hotel complex consisting of three 5 star hotels: - Gran Bahia Principe Tulum - Gran Bahia Principe Akumal - Gran Bahia Principe Coba A C T V I T I E S: What to expect: The Gran Bahia Principe Tulum Resort lies along a white-sand beach between a green mangrove jungle and the turquoise Caribbean; and either on its own or twinned with sister resort, Gran Bahía Príncipe Akumal next door, it allows days filled with rest and relaxation or solo and group activities. Amenity highlights: Blending into one another, the beach and poolside sundecks provide a sizable space for sunbathing on lounge chairs, napping beneath numerous thatched roof palapas, or splashing in warm saltwater and cool fresh water. Powdery white sand (with some rock) extends one km (more than a half-mile) past this resort and the sister resort next door. Dotted with trees and natural vegetation, this area offers secluded sunbathing, strolling, and areas for games. At the beach's center, between the two resorts, an artificial reef ensures calm water. Sundecks surround an enormous, lagoon-style, two-level main swimming pool, whose upper section is a "relaxation pool" and whose lower section is the “activity pool” with swim-up bar. Farther down the beach is another relaxation pool. Both pools include children's sections and cool-water spas. Insider tip: For a fee, a photo desk arranges photographs of guests anyplace in or around the resort—in bathing suits, evening wear, or Mexican dress, and festooned with iguanas or parrots. The hotel has the following facilities: a main swimming-pool in the form of a lake with a special children's area; a giant, open-air Jacuzzi; an enormous sundeck with sunbeds and sunshades; a private beach; Mini-Club; amphitheatre that hosts shows and entertainment; two tennis courts; a water-sports centre; a gym; shops stocking essential goods and gifts; a vast natural setting; and a large convention centre with top-quality facilities. You'll also be able to enjoy five restaurants and several bars with completely different styles and atmospheres. A M E N I T I E S: The hotel offers you spacious and comfortable rooms, with top-quality finishes: marble and noble woods. They all have two single beds or one king-size double bed, air conditioning, telephone, cable TV, a balcony and fully fitted marble bathrooms with a bathtub and shower. The 978 rooms are split into buildings that hold 18 each, arranged in a horseshoe shape, all facing the sea. D I N I N G   &   R E S T A U R A N T S: The majority of meals and beverages, plus all gratuities, at the following restaurants, snack spots, and bars are included in the room rate for this resort. Restrictions apply for à la carte dinners at La Gran Tortuga, Tequila, and Don Pablo. Guests of this resort also can dine and drink at neighboring Gran Bahía Príncipe Akumal. Yucatan - Divided into several sections, and featuring hand-carved and painted furniture and scenes from Mayan life, this restaurant offers views of the Caribbean. Vast and airy beneath an enormous palapa, it serves international-style breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets. At the restaurant's entrance, bottles with flavored tequilas such as coconut, hot-pepper, fruit, and coffee are set out for sampling. La Gran Tortuga - Located on the beach under a large palapa, this restaurant serves à la carte dinner, specializing in grilled foods. Reservations required. Dress code: Long pants for men.
