Warning: Thief on Property
By: Lacey Olsen from Chicago, IL
Date of Visit: May 2007
My husband and I stayed at Bolongo Bay May 17, 18, 19, 20, 2007 for our wedding and we were robbed! We had received a substantial amount of money as gifts for our wedding and placed the cash in the safe in room 123. We locked the safe and took the key with us to our ceremony at 3pm and when we returned at 11pm and opened the safe our money was gone. Everyone we knew on the island was with us so we know it wasn't any of them and no one else had access to our room except for hotel staff.
The hotel claims there is only 1 key to that safe (which we had with us). The safe did not appear tampered with which means there HAS to be a duplicate key on the grounds. Hotel management was 100% worthless. We actually had to insist they call the police. They only offered to fill out an "incident report" which was probably thrown in a drawer the moment we turned around. The police discouraged us from filing a report to keep it out of the papers, but we filed one anyway. Come to find out there was another theft reported on the property about a month prior that they are trying to keep under wraps as well so it doesn't taint their reputation with tourists.
The hotel did absolutely NOTHING and refused to take any responsibility. I cannot express how disappointed I am in Bolongo Bay and specifically the owner Paul Doumeng. If you do choose to stay there don't bring anything valuable because even when you think you are doing everything right and that your valuables are safe, they aren't. And don't expect Bolongo Bay or Paul to care. Should anyone want further details I can be reached at laceymichelle2 at yahoo.
As for the property itself, there were ants in our bathroom, our water pressure was horrible. I had to use another guests shower on my wedding day to get the shampoo out of my hair. The food was edible but nothing to write home about. We'll never go back and neither will any of our guests.
