Partly French and partly of Dutch origin makes this island very attractive. Casinos on the Dutch side and typical outdoor terraces on the French side, as if you are in France and Holland at the same time. More than 40 beaches all around the island, including clothes optional Oriënt Beach, plenty of nightlife, hundreds of restaurants and unbelievable duty free shopping.
Excursions to nearby islands such as Anguilla, St. Barths, St. Kitts, Nevis, Saba and Statia, are easy to arrange. There are some uninhabited islands around St. Martin as well, Tintamare for example: good for pic-nic and a day sunbathing. Golf, diving and yachting are well organized both on the French and the Dutch side. Renting a car here is not expensive and you can make most of your visit to St. Maarten when you do so.
