Excellent Resort

Stonefield has an excellent place to stay. They arranged for me to climb the more difficult of the two Pitons, had two spotless bungalows for us, provided top notch daily rioom and pool service (all the cabins have pools), and provided free shuttles to nearby beach resorts. The place has the feel of a laid back 1950s British Island resort. Very clean, very comfortable, just wonderful. We'll be back!

Close to Paradise
By: Anonymous from Leesport, PA
Date of Visit: March 2006
After researching trips for a milestone birthday trip for my wife, I settled on Stonefield for a week. When you read the reviews (on another forum) you always wonder if a place can live up to its rave reviews.
In no uncertain terms does Stonefield live up to its reviews, the resort actually exceeds them! Stonefields is a very special place that one must experience for themselves. To see and feel the setting in person is just breathtaking and memorable - words alone cannot do it justice.
Please note that if you are looking for the "all inclusive" or "Sandals styles" resort, then this is not the place for you. If you are looking for something unique with an emphasis on getting away from it all, then there is none better!
My wife and I had the Jacaranda villa, just below the restaurant and main pool. We spent the entire week just enjoying the incredible views of the Petit Piton, the small harbor below, plunge pool and serenity of the setting. We only left the villa three partial days to go to the Jalousie beach and Anse Chastenet, since it was just so idylllic in Stonefield. We even had a set of private steps to the restaurant.
The Mango Tree restuarant serves delicious meals all the time. There's always something for everybody with the rotating themes each night except for the "all you can eat buffet" type of people. Many dishes have a local flair to them and are highly recommended - try barracuda if its offered. Every meal is cooked to order so dinners can take 1-1/2 hours or so. But to sit there with the majestic Petit Piton on one side and the Carribean vistas to the other, there's no reason to rush since this is as close to paradise.
The staff is exceptional in their desire to please. The entire staff is friendly, courteous and will do anything within reason to make your stay more pleasurable. They are, arguably, the best staff of any resort in the Carribean. They are that good.
All of this excellence starts at the top by the managers and owners - the Browns. Aly and Patricia are to be commended for providing a most unique Carribean experience that in many ways has been lost. Their attention to detail and desire to offer the most pleasureable experience sets the entire tone to the resort.
I must end by saying that our vacation to Stonefield was far & away the best of our Carribean adventures. We've done everything from Westins to Club Meds in the Carribean and none of them are close to Stonefield. We highly recommend Stonefield to any and all who "want to get away from it all".
Simply the best!

Can't wait to go back
By: Sarah Farmer from Atlanta, Georgia
Date of Visit: April 2004
After lots of research, we choose this location to get married in April 2004. We arrived at the Airport and the hotel driver was kind enough to stop at the local grocery and help us shop a little since we were staying for 10 days. Then we drove what seemed like forever on these incredibly bumpy roads, through the small town of Soufriere and finally to our villa at Stonefield. We were anticipating a let down as everything in planning for our wedding had gone way too easy! Communication with Shanna and Francesca at the hotel was perfect (Shanna is the wedding coordinator). The website was so good that you almost thought everything had been touched up in some form or fashion! Here is the GRET NEWS.. this place was better than you can anticipate. We stayed in the Plantation house, 3 bedrooms, three bathrooms, formal dining room that seats 10 easily over looking the bay and the pool, private full size swimming pool, fully equipped kitchen (even a blender!), flowers and mangos everywhere, pet lizards by the pool, huge TV (never had time to use it), stereo system, VCR, 5 disk CD changer, and NO PHONE which was just perfect!
They have a shuttle to the beach as it is easy to walk DOWN to the local beach but the walk back could hurt you! It is very steep terrain and though we did not use the public beach, we heard it was not very clean. The shuttle takes you to the Hilton where you can access their beach and have use of all the snorkeling equipment for the wonderful coral garden at the bottom of the Petit Piton Mountain, which separates Stonefield from the Hilton. You can purchase food at the Hilton but you must pay cash (or credit card).
The Mango Tree was good and on most nights had entertainment. They will try to accommodate you for whatever your needs are. The service was relatively slow but hey, you are on the most beautiful island with the most incredible views, what’s the hurry anyway? It helps you get on island time.
Make the short trip to the pricey but awesome restaurant at the Ladera Resort for sunset. It is spectacular and the food and drinks are good too.
Please remember, there is no air conditioning and the accommodations only have plantation shutters. There are lizards (never saw any in the bedroom), bugs and birds would fly through the kitchen and living room. We made the mistake of leaving some food items on the counter and thought they would be taken away by all the small ants that attacked it! We learned that EVERY food item must be put in the refrigerator or in the oven for safekeeping.
We loved this place and have plans to return there SOON! It was the most relaxing vacation in that you can do tons of sight seeing or absolutely nothing at all but the pool or beach and you don’t feel like you missed out!
Highly recommended, highly missed!!!

My husband and I were married on the front porch our gorgeous villa. Our view was of lush tropical trees and a background of the pittons. The villa is open and even has an attached open shower. We loved this as it seemed to bring you closer to nature on a comfortable level. It was the perfect way to take time to look at our surroundings. When our lazy selves we were hungry, we strolled to get some great food from the Mango Tree Inn. The staff is helpful and have created a cozy atmosphere. Bands also play occasionally at the restaurant. We were not there though for nightlife and enjoyed the solitude.
The beach nearby is not to difficult to get to unless you don’t like taking hikes or warm weather. They provide a daily shuttle if so. The Joulise is the resort next door and you can arrange for free snorkeling for an all day adventure. It is a must to atleast snorkel in these waters. We went scuba diving and could not beat the views at any of the other islands we visited. We were also happy to have the solitude of Stonefield when we left and additionally avoid the higher villa rates!
Taking excursions with guides is expensive; however, it may be a toss up as to whether it’s worth it to do it yourself. The roads are very hard to handle and if you are the driver you miss the scenery (or fall off a cliff pretty much if you don’t watch the road). Also, you may get hassled less by any locals trying to sell guides and trinkets if you are accompanied by a guide. It is also much more interesting to hear about any history or background on what your seeing. St Lucia is much different politically as well as it’s visual surroundings from where we came from! Last note is to take plenty of water as the days are hot and you may not run into places to purchase it all the time, ATM’s are somewhat difficult to always find so it’s best to plan ahead a day or two as to cash flow.
All in all we are extremely pleased with our stay at Stonefield. This accommodation was our favorite out of the 5 hotels/villas we were at while in the Caribbean.

Unbelievably wonderful
By: Anonymous from Kansas City
Date of Visit: January 2003
To celebrate our anniversary, my wife surprised me with a one-week stay at Stonefield Estate. To say it was the best vacation of my life is an understatement--it was the best vacation that anyone I know has gone on! I just wish we could have stayed here on our honeymoon. It was truly romantic without being frilly, the views were spectacular, the villas were huge, the food was divine, and the property was just so beautiful. Biggest plus, we could have spent twice as much and still considered it a bargain. It really is far nicer than its price.
