 Every spacious hotel room at Shangri-La Caribe Hotel is specially decorated to provide the feeling of being in a Mayan Village. The cabanas and rooms have two beds, a ceiling fan, private bath with hot water and shower, two hammocks on the porch, bottled water, and daily maid service. The hotel also has air conditioned cabańas available. So whatever you expect, you will get more. Maximum Sun, Minimum Time
You don't often hear the words tropical hideaway and Cancun used in the same sentence. But the Shangri-La Caribe --- a drop dead gorgeous (and obscenely affordable) resort right on the Caribbean --- is so secluded that you won't believe you're just a half an hour's drive south of that concrete jungle of crass. The resort is so well laid out, with tiled pathways linking the bungalows, the pools, the bar, the gift and dive shops, and the dining pavilions, that you'll wonder where the heck everybody is which is precisely the point.
A "Fodor's Choice" Hotel...
Sangri-La used to be on the outskirts of Playa, but now it's considered part of northern downtown. Still, it remains a tranquil beachside resort with attractive whitewashed bungalows. Comfortable beds, tile floors, baths, and balconies or patios with hammocks decorate the rooms. A large, circular palapa serving light American and Mexican fare is a gathering spot for guests. |
