We went to Moon Palace for our honeymoon. It looks nice from a far but once you are there beware. The resurants are always crouded. You have to wait 30-40 minutes to be seated. You see your waiter once and never comes back. Then there are the "timeshare people" They try to see you their time share. Like the newlyweds like we were, we bought it. What a mistake paid $12,000. feels like we paid for a coupon. You still have to pay when you want to go to the resort, so what does the 12000 give you? A discounted price that maybe 100 less then you can get on a online site (orbitz, expedia, etc) . Moon Palace is $3400 for 1 week for 2 people where is the deal in that, plus you still have to pay for flight. The time share speal took allllll day so now we wasted a whole day on this very expensive coupon. You never own anything like other timeshares. Plus the price goes up every year. We have 3 kids between the both of us but are not able to use the resort because they only allow 4 people in the room. I called to see since one of the kids is under the age of 1 if we could stay in 1 room they said NO and that I can buy 2 rooms and have my 11 year old stay in there by herself. The whole palace resort chain is not easy to work with rude phone customer service not helpful at all.

At first sight this resort looks lovely, the main entrance is quite breathtaking and the golf courses are beautiful. We stayed there once before in 2005 when Aventura Palace was damaged by a hurricane, but since then the rooms have been redecorated and they have lost their warmth and any sense of luxury. The main problems with our week this year were; Nowhere nice to have a drink in the evenings (the swing bar outside was closed due to inclement weather, the jungle bar was like god’s waiting room and the lobby bar was full of loud, drunk conference people). The food looks lovely, but has no taste at all. If you want to see a show and it runs late, there is nowhere open afterwards to eat – you therefore have to have dinner at 7.30pm! And of course there are the timeshare people!! Whatever you do – don’t buy! It is a complete rip off. My husband bought into all the lies and we paid £10,000 – we were told we had 80 weeks at any Palace resort with 4 rounds of golf per week, 1 massage, 1 pedicure & 1 manicure per week. Now we find we have no golf and we still have to pay approx £1,000 per week for the all inclusive!! The golf costs £136 per round and £18 for an extra rider in the golf cart!! So definitely not the place for a cheap golfing holiday! My advise…..go somewhere else.

moon palace room theft

My Family just came back from a trip to Cancun where we stayed at the Moon Palace. Our stay was for 9 nights, our family consitsted of my husbands parents and our two children ages 16 and 13. The cost for this vacation was around $ 12,000.00 USD which included the airfare. My husband and I took $ 1,040.00 in spending money to pay for scuba, golf, atv rides and incidentals. We also took $ 100.00 in singles to use for tipping at the hotel, of which the bank gave me brand new serial numbered singles. Our Moon Palace room safe was accessed the 2nd day we were there and the $ 1040.00 was stolen, the theif or theives did not steal the serial numbered tipping money or credit cards. We reported the theft to Carlos in public relations (whom did not seem surprised) he had the Moon Palace hotel security dept come to our room for an "investigation" we cooperated and answered all questions, they looked through all our belongings, interviewed their staff and determined that the theft was impossible. Carlos in public relations said it was strongly recommended we go to Cancun to make a police report, we did not want to waste the time as the city is far from the hotel and we knew we would lose this vacation day if we did, but we did as he so strongly suggested...it did turn out to be a wasted day, the police never followed up. Carlos said the Moon Palace hotel would not do anything for us regarding the theft, he said they determined it impossible and he and Norma in public relations insinuated we were lying. I called my travel agent and told her to call Mexico Unlimited to see if they could do something on our behalf, while I had her on the phone I handed the phone to manager Mr. Mendoza, whom I thought was rude to my travel agent and told her it was not her business, just between the hotel and her client (us). I told Mr. Mendoza I would report my review on the internet upon my return, he did not care. My agent sent faxes and emails to the general manager of Moon Palace, Jaquin Arestage, it took him a day or so to reply to them, but he would do nothing for us either. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who needs to feel they and their belongings are safe. Upon arrival, it actually appeared to be the nicest hotel we have ever stayed in, the wait staff were very attentive, the grounds very well maintained, pools clean, rooms comfortable, food and drinks good, although 4 out of 6 of us were sickened with the stomach ailment before we left. The beach is not good for swimming, it has sea grass and jelly fish in the water. My husband and I were both stung by jellyfish. It was not the missing money which ruined the trip, but the attitude of the management which left a bad taste in our mouths every day we were there.

All I am going to say is TERRIBLE. For the amount of money that you spend there was nothing specatular about this place. It should have been a PALACE!!!!! Poor service sometimes, not all the time

Wedding coordinator--TERRIBLE,and a lier

wedding package--hardly anything was receive. did not refill inroom liquor or eater everyday as stated.

Tours---have to deal with timeshares

New Year's ---TERRIBLE--who wants and ugly Elvis at new year's. when we want to dance and party that is what you give people. not elvis who cracks dumb jokes and shakes around. We do not want to learn salsa for new year's either.

Do not prebook your plan seats because they will give them away anyway. It is all a scam!!

Moon Palace Hotel Review - Fantastic Destination !

This hotel is fantastic, and certainly lives up to it's 5 star reputation. From the moment you arrive you are treated like kings and queens, the hotel facilities and restaurants are first class, the trips organised by the Thomsons reps were good value for money, I cannot describe how good this hotel actually is. I have stayed there twice and I got married on my second visit. I have written a 35 page review with loads of information, if you wish to see this then go to the worlds largest auction website and search under moon palace hotel review, you will find my report a worthwhile read. Thank you.

We stayed this time on the Nizuc side this was our second visit to the moon palace in 16 months the addition of 24hr room service was wonderful the food was excellent! the staff wonderful!although the entertainment could do with a revamp. We hope to return yet again in November this year. Best waiter in the complex is Filipe he kept my grandson in stitches with his antics. No problems in recomending this resort to all our family and friends.

Moon Palace Resort -- Pretty Good

We stayed at the Moon Palace Resort for Thanksgiving Week 2003. At that time, the beach was clean and acceptable and mostly seaweed-free (although the beach is not a wide beach). Thanksgiving Week is a very popular week for vacations, but even though every room was taken, we enjoyed a quiet and restful stay. We got an ocean-front room! The jacuzzi-for-two (in the room) is great. I was recuperating from surgery at the time so I didn't feel like drinking any alcohol -- other guests told me that the drinks were regular-strength (not watered down) but that the brands of liquor were on the cheap side. We did see drunkenness, but overall everyone was very well behaved -- when a drunken party wandered by our room in the early hours and one of the men started to say something in an overly loud voice (a bit of a buzz seems to deaden the hearing), the others in the party immediately shushed him up and I fell asleep again immediately. Eat at least one meal outdoors (poolside) and order the desert coffee! Flaming coffee with both Brandy and Xtabantun -- very tasty -- and the waiter puts on quite a show when he prepares it. I was always able to find something healthy and tasty to eat, but my spouse, who enjoys four-star restaurants, was disappointed with the food -- which was always fresh and plentiful but not fancy or elaborate. P.S. Try a slice of GINGER PIE in the Japanese restaurant. Men, bring along at least one pair of long pants (khakis are fine) and a shirt with sleeves, because some of the restaurants have a dress code (especially for dinner). Women, throw a swimsuit coverup on or else you cant get into the restaurants (even for breakfast). I wore an athletic-cut bikini and a pair of shorts, and they would not seat me for breakfast! As you know, athletic-cut bikini tops cover more skin than most summer tops, but they have their rules. If you decide to sit outside under the moonlight at dinnertime, touch the seat cushion first -- I was wearing a fabulous cocktail dress and sat right down in a chair that a soaking-wet swimmer must have just gotten out of! Nothing like sitting in a wet seat at dinner. The service is charming -- no complaints there -- if you tip everyone with one American dollar for each service, you'll get more smiles and you'll get a little extra service. Stay away from the champaign breakfast because it is a very long timeshare presentation. Other guests forewarned us and we stayed away. The pool is fabulous. The fitness centers are good enough. They get crowded, though, once all the day-tours return in the evening, so get there in the morning or the early afternoon so you won't have to wait for a machine. The fitness centers open too late in the morning to get in before a day-tour (they are open something like 7 AM to 7 PM). The surgeon had cleared me for weight-lifting but not for aerobics; I noticed that the stationary bikes and the treadmills fill up fast. The mini-bar, which is stocked only every other day, is free with your room -- feel free to grab bottles of water from the poolside restaurant coolers as needed. The property is seven or eight years old, so everything is in good working order -- if something breaks, they come immediately to fix it. Even though the place is rather luxurious, it is NOT in the same league as a Michelin four-star resort. But it is a LOT cheaper than a Michelin four-star resort; you get what you pay for. It is a large resort, and since I didn't feel much like going on a rustic day-tour to a ruin (beware of the lunch that is provided on a day-tour -- eat only hot, cooked foods and don't go near ice!), the Moon Palace was an ideal choice because there are so many free activities right there (lying by the pool, relaxing in the jacuzzi, napping in the room, playing putt-putt golf on the grounds, exercising in the fitness center, entertainment every night, kids' entertainment every day in the pool hosted by a man and a woman who are great with the kids). You can spend a restful week and never leave the resort, if you like. If you are not physically fit, stay somewhere else (there are some stairs and it is a long hike between restaurants). We did see a ton of weddings that week. We saw one couple which might have been a homosexual couple, but the two of them were very discrete at poolside and at meals. We saw LOTS of families with children, and the children had lots of fun.

Palace hotels ...bad trip

We stayed in moon palace for 5 nights. The rooms are small and the hotel is very crowded! The drinks are diluted and the food is very very bad. After two days of our stay we got sick of going to the restaurants and even if we stepped in the food tasted awful. Because this place is far far away from any other place or restaurant and we couldn't go anywhere to eat out. Pretty much we gone hungry and we lived on alcohol. About 75% of our group got dysentry and we didn't eat anywhere apart from the food provided by the hotel people. Also, visiting a doctor is not included and you have to pay from your packet if you get severly sick. You can't swim at the sea and the beach is very smelly. We love to do morning walk, and because of the smell we couldn't able to do that at this hotel. You need to tip a lot to get good service from the waiters eventhough this place is all inclucive and tips are included. The TV provided in the room is very old and is very grainey and we won't even feel like watching anything. The trip to Isla Mujeres was good and crew in the ship was fun.

I must admitt I am somewhat amazed by some of the previous comments which do not do this hotel justice.
This is the best all inclusive hotel I have ever stayed in and the food, facilities and service are second to none.
I have been there are 4 occasions and each time I have not been disappointed. I have spoken to hundreds of people during my visits and everyone of them has only said good things about this hotel
Totally recommend the company I booked with www.cancunluxuryvacations.com

I had an awesome trip aside from some weather problems but u cant control that. i must say by far the staff is the best part f that resort. they are all friendly and nice they try their best to understand your language. my favorite part of the resort by far were the activities that the entertainment staff had on and the entertainment staff themselves. without them my trip would havebeen extremely boring. i traveled with my parents so there was much to do but the very first day i was there Jorge and Philipe had me doing all sorts of stuff. water volleyball, dancing lessons, water aerobics....everything i had a great time during the day and then at night they were there to entertain as well with skits, kareoke, beach party.i must say it was the best trip ive ever been on. i would like to greatly thank them for therer time and effort that they put in to their jobs. keep up the good work. besides that though i would give the room a 4 star because i dont meen to pick but the beds werent the most comfortable but it was ok because it got me up early lol. anyways i would just like to say i would defiantly reccomend to a friend and id go back myself. i have one request if possible though to the people reading this if you know of anyway to get email or mailing addresses for any of the entertainment staff that would be greatly appreciated because it slipped my mind to ask before i left (had an early flight). thank you for a great vacation hope to see you again soon!!
my email is foxgirl0914@hotmail.com if anyone has info about the entertainment staff thx!!

It is unfortunate that some of the other reviewers did not have a positive experience at Moon Palace. My wife and I were married there in Feb. 2003 and we had 30 people with us and each and every one of us want to go back. Each of us were approached by a sales rep but lucky we were warned of this ahead of time and did not waste any time. The 'free' tours that were offered were very good and the shopping stops were alright, you have to like to barter! Out of all of our company every day trip was taken and the only negative comments were the durations of the trips and the people that were complaining were the ones that didn't want to leave the resort in the first place. The rooms were amazingly clean, the service was amazing, you don't have to walk anywhere if you don't want to!!!! They will come and get you in a golf cart. They say not to tip but a tip will always get you better service, remember that no matter where you are.

The service was amazing!!!!! You didn't have to get up for anything and it was even better once you talked for a bit to the people working at the resort (being polite will always get you somewhere).

My husband and daughter just returned from a vacation at the Moon Palace (Nizuc Side) on October 25, 2003. We totally enjoyed ourselves and would recommend this resort to anyone, especially families who wish to be away from the Hotel Zone with all the tourists and college students.

About a week before we flew to Cancun I started surfing the net to read some reviews. For the most part, the reviews were negative....complaining mainly about the beach and the food. I began to worry that I was wasting my money and wishing I had picked another place to stay as this was my husband and daughter's first time to Cancun. I went in 2000 with work and stayed at the Cancun Palace (also a VERY EXCELLENT resort) and was so impressed I decided to take my family. Upon arriving at the Moon Palace I was relieved and quite impressed by the beauty and professionalism of the moon palace and its staff.

We were first assigned a room that overlooked a little pond and other condos but it was still an excellent view. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. Because my 6 year old daughter had never seen the ocean we asked for an ocean-view room. The staff was more than helpful, and because we were there during the off-peak season and the resort wasn't completely full, they gave us a killer-view room on our third night there.

The drinks were good and plentiful. I didn't hardly need to lift a finger to get one. The restaraunts were good as well, though I think people need to remember one thing.....YOU'RE IN MEXICO NOT AMERICA! The food was good mexican food. No, there wasn't beef wellington or prime rib sitting there for the taking. But there was plenty to choose from. Every place I have every stayed (Bahamas, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta to name some recent voyages)that is all-incluse focuses mainly on buffets and I thought they were excellent. Clean, temperature controlled with a variety of choices. The oriental restaraunt on the Sunrise side was also quite good. We rode the shuttle there and then walked back on the beach. Very romantic and mesmerizing.

The salon was also very nice. I went there every afternoon for either a manicure, pedicure, scalp massage, or holistic massage and although I have had better, they were very relaxing and the staff tried very hard to make it a great experience. Again, I was in Mexico, not in New York City spa.

We did a few tours, one being a three hour (not sure if our daughter could be entertained all day) snorkeling tour and it was awesome! I've also done the 'Bob', jungle tour, and pirate tour and they were all great.

Overall, I would give this resort a 5star rating....the food is not exactly 5start but it is up to standards with the rest of the all-inclusive resort I've been to and we were very impressed. Money well spent.

Just got back yesterday. It was ok. The resort is very beautiful. There is always an underlying feeling that you should be tipping. The pool is awesome, the sand is nice, the food was mediocre at best...pretty boring food. They hit you up with the time shares but aren't too pushy. They need more events, more stuff to do.

Honeymooners Beware!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you’re going to Mexico for romance, the moon palace is probably the last place to would want to go to. My wife and I just got back from the moon palace a week ago. When we first arrived to the moon palace we were taken in by its enormous size. They have over 2000 rooms. The palace is divided into two areas, the Sunrise section and the Nazuc section (not sure of the spelling). The sunrise is the main area and the other is a smaller version of it. All the rooms with hammocks are located in the sunrise section.

When we entered the lobby we noticed there were quite a few partying people at the bar. And when I mean partying, the whole bar was packed with guys in their 20's smashed out of their minds at 12:00 in the afternoon. I guess the problem is that the moon palace is too close to Cancun for people who don't want to come to party. After a few battles with the front desk we finally got the room we wanted.

As soon as you check in a 'guest service' rep. comes over with punch and asks you to see him after you are done getting your room. This rep. sits you down and talks about a free VIP breakfast that you are 'specially invited to' (which means everyone goes to it). He then tells you that after the breakfast you will have $100 hotel money to spend on tours, events and other activities. When he's just about to finish he will bring out some sob story about his kid winning a trip overseas, if you show up tomorrow. He casually adds in 'It's only a 90 minute presentation'. This whole charade is nothing more than a TIMESHARE event. Luckily, when we were walking away I thought this whole situation was very strange, and we decided not to go. After talking to other couples I guess the '90 minutes' turned into 3 hours. Beware of the timeshare!

The pools at the resort were very nice but once again, hearing drunk-ass frat boys yelling over top of 'welcome to the jungle' took away a romantic getaway.

The resort has many places to eat which are all about 7 out of 10. The Asian restaurant was the best of them all. Some places are buffet and some they bring the food to you. One day the breakfast was colder than my drink. Everyone wants to be tipped but I only did that when they went an extra mile for me.

I was very disappointed with the beach. In fact the beach was terrible. It was all brown and tons of seaweed. We didn't see anyone swimming in it the whole time we were there. I've seen cleaner used toilets than the beach at the moon palace. Anyone who doesn't believe this can e-mail me and I will send them a picture. If you love the beach then stay away from here.

The rooms were kept up very well and the whole resort was very clean. If you think you’re going to get a room with an ocean view, good luck. #1 those rooms are for timeshare clients and #2 the resort is way too big to have everyone facing the water. Once again, I can e-mail anyone a picture of the view from our room.

The nightlife at the moon palace did have many events going on such as Mayan shows, karaoke, dancing, etc. There were many activities to do there.

I didn't like the resort becuase it was too close to the airport. And if you stayed at the moon palace you will know why.

One plus sign of the resort we liked was the free shuttles to any one of the sister resorts such as Beach palace, XPU-HA, Cancun palace, etc.
We took a free shuttle to XPU-HA and enjoyed their beach. It was very nice warm water and a great looking beach. We could also eat at any other sister resorts for free. But some palaces had only 2 restaurants.

We found many activities through the resort were very expensive but, if you pick up a tourist package at the airport when you arrive many of the same tours are cheaper and have coupon discounts.

The bottom line is this: It all depends what you’re going to the moon palace for.

Romance? No.
Partying? Yes.
Tours and activities? Yes.
Beach? No.
Quiet vacation? No.

If anyone has any questions feel free and ask.

Just a final note: It seems many people rave about this resort.
I have a feeling they don't travel very much.

Moon Palace Review -- Theft from room

My name is Joe Kleon. I own and operate a recording studio, provide professional voice services to radio and TV, and am a professional photographer.

I just returned about four hours ago from my honeymoon in Cancun, where my wife and I stayed at the Moon Palace. We were there from June 8-15, 2003

I have a lot fresh on my mind regarding our stay at the Moon Palace. I found this site searching for 'Moon Palace' and 'fheft.' While I download pictures from my trip, I will tell you my experiences at the Moon Palace.

I had an absolutely great time on my honeymoon, but the Moon Palace had little to do with it. Granted, the grounds, many pools, and bars looked fantastic, but the drinks were extremely weak, the food was, for the most part, medicore, 'time shares' are crammed down your throat, and we had items stolen from our room.

While out on a tour, the second day there, we returned to our room to find items had been stolen. I can't tell you how violated and upset we were. We searched the room for two hours before I went to the lobby to report the incident. Forty-five minutes after notifying someone at the front desk the 'night manager' came and spoke to me. He appeared concerned and said he would meet me back at my room, with security, in fifteen minutes.

Around an hour later, he arrivd with two security guards. One guard took a reading of who was in the room that day, from the card reader on the door. We knew that a maid cleaning the room and someone restocking the small refridgerator, which was done every two days, were in the room that day. The other guard did an search of our room and spent about 30 mintues searching the entire room.

I was told to check with lost and found, as maybe the items were bunched up in the bed and taken to the laundry.

I checked in with 'guest services' twice a day for the next few days. After the first day, I was greeted with rolled eyes and a total lack of concern and pronounced apathy. Several times, before checking lost and found, the guest services reps wanted to first talk to me about their time share program! I was agast. I was also called once at 8 in the morning and my wife and I were awakened by a hotel rep wanting to know if we received our 'spceial invitation,' which was a 90 minute presentation hawking their time share program. I was completely pissed.

We asked for a copy of the security report and were only given the first page, where I wrote a copy of what happened on a blank sheet of paper, as requested by the manager. I also filled out a hotel theft form and a printed reading was done on who was in the room the day of the theft. I was told I was not allowed to have copies of this information. I felt they were covering something up.

After continuing to apply pressure to investagate the theft and search for the item, both personally and also insisting that the Apple Vactions reps did the same, a very strange thing happened.

Four days later, on the night before we were to leave, we return to our room to find the items back in the room, on top of our main suitcase.

We had placed the 'do not disturb' sign on our door since the theft, not wanting any one else in the room after the theft. The fact that someone entered the room during this time left us frightened and wanting to get the hell out of there. We spent the rest of the night packing and searching everything we packed, making sure nothing was left hidden in any of our luggage, maybe by a disgruntled thief. It was a hell of a feeling to be experiencing on your honeymoon.

I felt my honeymoon was destroyed. We both tied not to show it, but were deeply concerned by what had happened.

I am positive that someone entered the room and returned the item, probably after being repeatedly being pressured by both security and Apple personnel.

Immediately after noticing the theft, I searched the suitcase, where the item was found, three times in two hours, while serarching the room. While I then walked to the lobby and waited for someone to talk to me (30-45 minutes) my wife again searched the suitcase, as well as the entire room.

Security then arrived and also searched the suitcase. We were in there 2-3 times a day for four days after the theft, for clothes and other items.

Then it suddenly appears ON TOP of the suitcase, in plain sight, during a six hour period we spent shopping and exploring in downtown Cancun.

We never told anyone that the item reappeared. We were scheduled to leave the follwing afternoon and did not want to spend the rest of our time dealing with the same lackluster atttude we received during the four days after the theft. We were scared, felt violated, and just wanted to get the hell out of there.

Fortunately, we spent much time, during the week, away from the resort, on tours of Tulum, Chichen-Itza, and a few other places. They were absolutely the most fantastic places I have ever visited. Being a professional photographer, I took around 2000 pictures and am viewing them for the first time as I write this review. They are some of the best I have ever taken. I will post them on my website, in the next few days. I will not post the URL here, but you can search any search engine under my name and find the site.

My honeymoon was still the best week of my life. I just wish I had spent it anywhere but the Moon Palace, or any Palace Resport, for that matter.

The food was mostly buffet style medicore ruffage. The same buffets you see in mid-price American buffets. Not five star food, by any means. The two good restaurants in the Sunrise section of the Moon Palace, were a steak place and an oriental restaurant. We ate in the oriental restaraunt once, because every other night we tried but either had to wait more than two hours, or could not get in at all.

The one Mexican restaurant we ate at was the worst meal of our entire trip.

Back to the buffets for a cheeseburger and a weak pina colida. Yea!

The beach at the Moon Palace was covered with seaweed and murky. The beaches at the three other Palace Resorts we visited were beautiful. Crystal light blue water, white sand, amazing.

The beach at The Moon Palace was dark, covered with thick layers of seaweed, murky and uninviting.

I hope to return to the area to explore other Myan sites. I will never stay at The Moon Palace, or any other Palace resort.
