Excellent Time!
By: Anonymous from new york
Date of Visit: August 2007
There were 15 of us who went and we had the best time. Our kids ranging from 10 and up want to go back. The food was so so, but everything else was absolutely terrific! There were activities all day long, very clean, the people were nice and the service was good. We have been to several all-inclusives and this was one of the best yet! We are definitely going to return there again!

Stay here only if you like less than average service
By: linda from cleveland ohio
Date of Visit: September 2006
The area is beautiful. Though the layout makes for a lot of walking. The gardens and grounds are well maintained. The room was clean and comfortable.
The issues are no one told us about the resort We did not know we were not allowed on the property to us. We did not know there was a difference. We were walking late at night through our resort, and apparently wondered on the grounds at the Iberostar Lindo, we were escorted off the property. We did not know about a shopping center in the middle with a dance club and other restaurants. No one explains anything.
Also, the service was inconsistent. Drinks are made differently at each bar. Some bartenders do not speak English, and make you what they think you want. But, do not understand the language, it was very frustrating. Also, when you ask for higher end liquor it is very convenient of them not to be able to understand what you are asking for.
The buffet service was bad. We had to go get our coffee for breakfast. The staff was concentrated on clearing tables and not taking care of the people. Though there were signs everywhere wanting tips. I did not see many people tipping because of the service. The quality of the food was poor. It was also very boring. Not much seafood. You would going to a place like that there would be many choices to pick from. Not so. Overall, I would not suggest going there. The place is so big and impersonal. It did not live up to its name.

Great Beach Wedding
By: Sean Smith from Phoenix, AZ
Date of Visit: March 2006
Most of what I was going to say is echoed in the previous review so I will focus on the wedding and the experience we had.
It was the most sureal moment in my life. Beyond the wedding the staff was very welcoming and helped us with any issue that we had. We had a free upgrade to a larger sweet for the entire 10 day stay and were moved right next to the beach.
I feel bad for the people that came right after the huricane, but they seem to be making ammends as of late. I would highly recommend staying at any of the hotels, but recommend the Del Mar for the atmosphere( fewer kids and more lush surroundings) and price.
If you like the tropical feel it is by far the best with animals roaming the area and romantic walks through tropical forest like areas that lead to the beach. The other hotels just seemed so much more steril. The Maya was almost completely indoors and air conditioned(if you like that sort of thing). The wedding coordinator helped us all the way and the wedding day, though windy, was so perfect.
I recommend it to everyone.

Breathtaking!
By: Anonymous from Chicago, IL
Date of Visit: February 2001
The resort had only been open for 1 month when we arrived and we were needlessly worried. It was far more beautiful than we could have imagined with lush landscaping, marble walkways over fish-filled pools, flamingos wading, peacocks wandering, open air buildings with thatched roofs, and the longest pool I'd ever seen snaking through the resort from 1 end to the other.
The food was great, especially the a la carte restaurants and even the international buffet on nights when you don't know when you'll want to eat and don't want to make reservations. My only complaint is that they served mashed potatoes for breakfast and never for dinner!
The beach is huge with palm and banana trees dotted more in some places than others to give a canopy of shade with a bar shack that specializes in tropical drinks.
Our room size was adequate, but the bathroom was large and done all in marble. Every room had a balcony/terrace and ours looked out over a mangrove jungle path that had been tastefully landscaped with huge hibiscus bushes in bloom. I read alot of reviews where people comment on the staff, but to be honest, I don't believe we ever had a need to deal with any staff member other than waiters and waitresses and the room attendant. They were very sweet and accommodating as you would expect of anyone, but since we never had even one little problem, I can't say they went above and beyond. They were just nice.
The resort basically has 2 themes. One side is Moroccan in style, decorated with dark woods with intricate carvings, middle eastern pottery, brass, teak, etc. The other side has a lighter Caribbean feel in bright pastels, light wicker, and tropical flowers. It seemed to us that more Europeans stayed on the Moroccan side and most Americans/Enlish speaking guests were on the Caribbean side, but I may be wrong with that conclusion. We actually preferred the Caribbean side and the feeling of Mexico, but the other side was very beautiful.
The main bars in the lobbies and in the theater served top shelve liquors and champagne, but the wines were all Mexican and were terrible. I suggest you bring your own if you are a true wine drinker, especially if you drink RED wine. There are liquor stores in Playa, but the prices are a little high and the selection is limited for good wines. Be prepared.
All in all, our experience was fantastic. We have stayed at other resorts and think this one is probably the best if you like casual luxury and the amenities of a large resort without feeling crowded. Getting up early enough to get in the dinner reservation line was probably our only inconvenience, but that was just us.
