rui playa car 8-17-2006
By: lynn evans from pennsylvania
Date of Visit: August 2006
we just returned from the riu playacar and really enjoyed our stay. The employees were very friendly and helpful. The only things that I think needs to be improved are the beds, they are too hard. We had trouble sleeping. We would also like another beer besides Corona. It would be nice if they had a club. We would go there again.

Wonderful Vacation
By: Ruth from Toronto, Canada
Date of Visit: January 2005
This is the second time we have stayed at the Riu Playacar and it won't be the last. We can truthfully say that there is nothing we can find wrong with this property. The food is amazing, so fresh and so much variety. If you can't find something you like, then there is something seriously wrong with your tastes. The rooms are immaculately clean and so is the rest of the hotel. The staff is friendly and go out of their way to accomodate your every need. Beach is kept spotless and there are lots and lots of beach lounges. We recommended this hotel to our friends who accompanied us and they also loved it and said they would be back. It's within easy walking distance to Playa Del Carmen, about 1/2 hour, which is great. It's a great little town. There doesn't seem to be much of a kids program so if you have little ones it might not be the greatest place, which made it even better for us because it was fairly quiet and we enjoyed that.

Can do better than Riu Playacar
By: Anonymous from Chicago
Date of Visit: February 2003
We booked a week at the Riu Playacar and a week at the Bahia Principe Tulum for basically the same price at each. They also were similar in terms of their quality ratings, both 4.5 stars. I'll just say that there was no comparison. The Bahia Principe Tulum was far superior in terms of cleanliness of the grounds, service, food, beach areas, friendly staff, and the list goes on. The Riu Playacar looked to be in need of a major facelift as the room was very moldy smelling and the resort in general could use some upkeep. The Riu was an ok spot but was dissapointment compared to the Bahia, especially when they were priced the same.

Great Vacation
By: Ruth from Toronto, Canada
Date of Visit: November 2003
We stayed at the Riu Playacar from November 15th to November 29th, 2003. It was a wonderful place. They have the regular restaurant which is buffet style and then 2 other restaurants that you must make reservations for. We went to the steakhouse once and found that the food there didn't compare to the food at the buffet. So we never went back. Food at the buffet was fantastic, so much variety and so fresh. People working at the resort were so nice, couldn't do enough for you. Rooms were spotless everyday. We were told that some of the rooms have a musty smell which being the humid Caribbean stands to reason. Anyway, we took scented candles, and Lysol spray for mold and mildew. The room was musty smelling, although nothing you couldn't live with, but the candles and spray resolved that problem. The mini bar was supposed to be refilled every second day. We did have to call them on 3 different occasions as they neglected to restock with beer. But again, no big deal. Other than than we couldn't possibly have any other complaint. It's a 20 minute walk into Playa del Carmen. Lots of shopping there and lots of restaurants also. We would highly recommend this resort and if you wish to email with any other questions, feel free.
