Incredible! Best vacation ever!
By: Karen Merrill from Raleigh/ Durham, NC
Date of Visit: January 2008
Our company sent it's top 40 Realtors to unwind for 5 days and we had a blast. Beautiful resort, great food, fun snorkeling, terrific spa! No kids in this resort so very peaceful, Jaccuzi in room was nice and every room had some view of the beach. The negative was lack of a beach for playing in the waves and far away from other resorts and towns. Most of us stayed in the resort the whole time, others ventured to nearby Talum & Playa Del Carmen. Great R&R

Overall Good
By: Jeremy-Wood / jeremywood from Oklahoma
Date of Visit: December 2007
My wife and I spent our honeymoon at the Aventura Spa Palace in December 2007. I have also been to the Cancun Palace, but that was 6-7 years ago. The best aspect of this resort is the staff...very nice and prompt. They do speak A LOT of spanish, but we enjoyed it. The lagoon was fun, but our biggest disappointment was the "beach". Let me make this very clear...there is no beach! The restaurants were good...I think seven in total, but our favorite was the "Hacienda" and the lunch buffets were also good (make sure and get the fajitas they make to your specifications!) We traveled to Playacar and it was a HUGE disappoint (do not stay there!). However, we went to the strip in Playacar and it was fun. There was a public beach there, so therefore we spent the entire day at the beach. The drinks are diluted, but the solution to that is drinking twice as much! (The in-room liquor dispenser had rum, scotch, brandy, and tequila...no vodka!) If anyone has any questions, feel free to email me at jeremyscottwood@yahoo.com.

AVOID THE AVENTURA PALACE!!!
By: Scott B from NJ
Date of Visit: October 2007
My wife and I stayed for 5 nights at the Aventura Spa Palace the last week of October. We paid good money for what we expected to be an "exclusive resort", but the place never came close to living up to our expectations.
WE PAID FOR 1ST CLASS SERVICE AND GOT 3RD CLASS SERVICE.
Among the problems:
* Rooms - our room had ants in the bed (and I had to fight to get a new room even though the resort was at 30% capacity). Also, the room had a broken door lock, safe, and alarm clock and was overall dirty and full of bugs.
* Housekeeping - Some days our room wasn't turned-over until 6 pm (even though we requested it earlier). The soap and shampoo were not changed once during our 5 nights. I'm not even sure if they changed the sheets or towels the entire time.
* Food - overall it was pretty bad. Breakfast was a buffet every day that was edible. Lunch was also a buffet everyday and was almost edible. Dinner was absolutely terrible. They have about 9 restaurants on the property and all were equally horrible. EVEN THE MEXICAN RESTAURANT WAS BAD.
* Trips - the company the hotel uses was completely unorganized and even screwed up one of our trips and we ended up missing the entire trip.
* Staff - some of the staff members were friendly and out to please, but a vast majority didn't care about the guests. Most didn't even speak English. The "management team" were the most uncaring, unprofessional, and insulting group of people I have ever dealt with on a vacation. They try to blame the guest for resort problems.
* Beach/Lagoon - I knew prior to going that there was no true beach, but a man-made lagoon area. We'll, it was much worse then I ever could have imagined. There is a tiny lagoon with about 10 fish surrounded my a gravel "beach". Don't even bother.
I have been in contact with the corporate office in Miami attempting to get compensated for my lousy trip. They don't seem to care about the guest either. I guess poor service flows down from the top.
I WOULD NEVER GO BACK TO THE AVENTURA PALACE OR ANY OTHER PALACE RESORTS AGAIN!!!

Great !!!
By: Scott McReynolds from Houston
Date of Visit: June 2005
I have been to several resorts and can say, by far, this was the best. One thing if you like to pary ? -- Stay on the Adventura Side (south side) if you want to lay by the pool with no noise stay on the Spa Side (North side). Only complaint was we got put on the Spa side and we had to walk along way to get to the party side. Other than that it was great.

PRAISE THE STAFF !!!!!!!!
By: MICHELLE DRAKE-PALMER from CHERRYVILLE,N.C. USA
Date of Visit: April 2006
A GIRLS LONG WEEK-END AWAY FROM NORTH CAROLINA COULD HAVE ENDED ALOT DIFFERENTLY...MY MOM FELL IN ONE OF THE RESTAURANTS EARLY MORNING - WE HAD TO HAVE A DOCTOR CALLED TO COME TO THE RESORT.
MY WORST FEAR A SHOULDER FRACTURE CAME TO LIFE , YOU CAN IMAGINE MY STATE OF MIND- BEING AWAY FROM HOME IN ANOTHER COUNTRY NOT SURE OF THE QUALITY OF TREATMENT SHE WOULD RECEIVE.
WE DID TRAVEL TO THE HOSPITAL IN CANCUN, NOW UNDERSTAND THE FACILITY WAS SMALL AND SOME WHAT PRIMITIVE- WE SAW (WHAT I AM GOING TO CALL AN ER PHYSICAN) AND THEN AN ORTHOPEDIC SPECIALIST -SHE WAS WELL TAKEN CARE OF, PUT IN A BRACE UNTIL WE COULD FLY HOME THE NEXT DAY, AND SEE A PHYSICIAN IN THE STATES.
MY REVIEW ISN'T ABOUT THE INJURY AND HOSPITAL VISIT -BUT MORE ABOUT BEING AWAY FROM HOME-NEVER THINKING SOMETHING BAD COULD HAPPEN TO YOU.
I WANT TO PRAISE THE STAFF AT THE ADVENTURA SPA RESORT FOR THEIR COMPASSION,CARE AND CONCERN FOR GOING OVER AND BEYOND WHAT IS EXPECTED.
I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT HOW WONDERFUL IT WAS TO FEEL SAFE AND PROTECTED -I ASK FOR AN INTERPRETER TO GO WITH US TO THE HOSPITAL NOT KNOWING WHAT LANGUAGE BARRIER WE MIGHT BE FACED WITH -JUST KNOWING I HAD SOMEONE TO TRANSLATE IF NEEDED WAS A GREAT RELEIF-IF YOU READ THIS REVIEW AND YOU VISIT THE ADVENTURA SPA PLEASE THANK RODOLFO RODRIQUEZ PUBLIC RELATIONS,DANIEL SCHEIMAN AND ALEJANDRO BERISTAIN BOTH RESORT MANAGERS FOR ME - THE RESORT ITSELF WAS AMAZING, THE POOLS GRAND! RESTAURANTS, LOTS TO CHOOSE FROM....GROUNDS BEAUTIFUL...I WOULD LOVE TO VISIT AGAIN,NEXT TIME NO TRIP TO THE HOSPITAL IN CANCUN!!!!!!!!

resort overview
By: Anonymous from Playa del Carmen, Mexico
Date of Visit: March 2005
This resort was absolutely wonderful. We just got back from there and we can't wait to go again. Not only was the resort beautiful, the staff VERY friendly, but the people we met that were staying there was fun as well. Many people we met were there for the second or third time. It will be real difficult to want to go any where else, hard to beat the BEST!!

Huge Facility
By: Wisconsin Carribean Holiday Seekers from Appleton, Wisconsin
Date of Visit: February 2004
Huge, but beautiful and spotless.Missed not having a beach. Food was very good, staff was very freindly and helpful. Rooms were spacious, really enjoyed the hammocks and the liquor dispensors. Room service was prompt and delicous. Plan on walking, this place is spread out, but we didn't mind the walk. Was easy making reservations for dining and excursions as well. We took an excursion to XTU-PHU palace for breakfast and beach use and then to the TULUM ruins, which was included with our stay, was very enjoyable...

Paradise in Mexico
By: Anonymous from California
Date of Visit: November 2004
Our 2nd time at AV - 3rd time at a Palace Resort. We went with 2 other couples and had a great time! The service was awesome and the resort is beatiful! The Spa is the best I've ever been too. Had a massage in an oceanview bungalow. Very relaxing and pampering! Very much needed in this stressful world! The lagoon was very relaxing - not the long white beach but knew that going in. You can be as active or as relaxed as you want to be at this resort. You decide what you want your vacation to be!

Great Place to Vacation
By: Anonymous from Las Vegas, Nevada
Date of Visit: May 2004
I did not wanted to go to Aventura Spa Palace because I knew it did not have a real beach an we love the waves. My daughter insisted we go there because there will be no children and she wanted the spa treatments plus the all inclusive deal. Well, as it turned up it was one of the most relaxing vacations my husband and I have ever had.
My daughter surprice me ( my husband new) with getting married on that beautiful property. For beach we went to Xpu Ha Palace, only five minutes away in a taxi. The beach was better than in Cancun and all your food and drinks are included in all the Palaces Resorts. We only took one tour, Coba Ruins, because we did not wanted to leave the confort of the Aventura Spa Palace. The food was good at the better restaurants and OK at the others. Variety of food was great and available everywhere plus the 24 hour room service was very good and convenient.
The workers were very courteous and most of them spoke English. The property is gorgeus and kept in excellent conditions. The place was beautiful.
We have been in five Caribean Cruises and las year we went to Cancun and this Property with all inclusive is right up there along the best.

Aventura Spa is Wonderful
By: Smiths101 from Dallas, TX
Date of Visit: March 2003
This property is very simple to explain. If you like Adults only (yes! no kids!), great sun, wonderfully attentive service, great drinks, great tours and guides, quiet relaxation and, did I mention the drinks, then the Aventura Spa Palace is for you.
If you want a nightclub-like singles scene, excellent food and direct access to a beach front (there are saltwater lagoons protected from the surf by a rock jetty) this place is not for you.
The food is very, very average on good days and a little less than average on other days.
The Coba and Tulum tours were fantastic and informative and the Spa, according to my wife, was posh with great service.
The nightly shows end by 11:30 PM and the activities are primarily pool-based but this is a very relaxing and wonderful choice for the couple looking to have a stress-free vacation.

Paradise
By: Michele from Milwaukee, WI
Date of Visit: February 2003
Just back from a fabulous week at Aventura Spa Palace, adults only resort. So sad to return home to cold and snow. This truly is a palace. The place is georgous. There are fountains and cool blue pools everywhere.
We stayed on the Spa side and recommend this highly. This is the quiet side where people just relax and hang out at the pool, the beach, or at the piano bar. If you want excitement and activities, go to the Aventura side. This is where the party atmosphere is and where all the nightly shows take place. You can walk, but there is a continuous shuttle between lobbies that is very convenient. We liked that we could go to the Aventura side when we wanted to, but return to peace and quiet when we had enough of social activities (they have ping pong, billiards, a large screen tv with sports, a nightly band, disco, nightly show-different each night, a giant chess board that you can walk on, drinking games at the pool, etc, etc).
Also, please be careful, the floors everywhere are all tile and when wet (from rain or pool water) are very slippery. We saw several people fall. The all-inclusive concept is the best! Any time you want food or drink you just walk up and get it. You can eat as much as you want and drink whatever you want. All activities included. It was so nice not to have to carry a purse or money around. The service was great and the people very friendly. We enjoyed them very much. The food itself is average. Nothing to write home about, but there is such a variety (2 buffet breakfasts and 2 buffet lunches, 6 restaurants for dinner) that you will definitely find something to your taste. I thought the breads, desserts, and guacomole with homemade chips were great. At the buffets, there is also a grill with several choices of made-to-order food.
The only time you need money is if you want to buy something in one of the shops, use spa services, or venture outside the resort into one of the towns for other excursions or shopping. The Spa is a dream. I didn't want to leave. The first day I met with the reception area and put together a package (and got a 15% discount as well). They charged it to my room. I spread them out on different days throughout my stay. The aromatherapy massage was fantastic. I also had a facial, back massage, riviera hand treatment and manicure. The hydrotherapy areas are included in the spa services. There is a water foot massage, sauna, steamroom, water massage showers, hot tub, cool tub, drinks, places to sit and relax, full bathrooms, lockers. There is a men's side with the same amenities. T
here are excursion packages included with your stay (how many depends on how many nights you are staying). We took the Tulum-Xpu Ha excursion. This was snorkeling at Xpu Ha Palace and Tulum ruins. We went to Xpu Ha first. This is the exact opposite of the Aventura Spa Palace. It is set in an ecopark- you literally live in huts in the jungle. Inside they are luxurious, but outside there are wildlife everywhere. The few hours we were there, we saw 3 iguana cross our path and my boyfriend saw a giant grey spider the size of a drink coaster. The snorkeling was fun-my new favorite activity-and the beach was beautiful. Still, too primitive for me. I managed to get too much sun there, so we did not continue on to Tulum. We took the $7 taxi back to our resort so I could recover with a nap and cool water.
Taxis take you everywhere. There is a price list at the entrance. We went to Playa Del Carmen twice. It is a $12 taxi ride(about 15minutes). Tell them you want to go shopping in Playa Del Carmen and the driver will know where to drop you off. They have great shopping there. They take american money, but don't always give it back as change. So, if you don't want to change to pesos, be as close to the price as possible to eliminate the possibility of ending up with too many pesos as change. Many stores there also take credit cards. However, as our Apple Rep told us, Discover card has not yet been discovered in Mexico, so don't bring it. Visa, Mastercard are you best bets.
This town also has a great beach. Our resort has a man-made beach and lagoon that is nice for snorkeling, but pretty pitiful if you want an ocean beach. Go visit another resort like Xpu Ha for the beach or go to Playa Del Carmen. We recommend this. It is beautiful and fun. This is also where you catch the ferry to Cozumel. We did not do this, but heard there is great snorkeling and shopping there as well.
The room was great. King-size bed, two-person jacuzzi, shower big enough for 2. Also had a mini frig stocked with water, soda, beer. Above that was a cabinet with 5 different liquors (tequila, whiskey, brandy, vodka, and one other) all set and ready to pour. Every day the maid left us with a nice little artistic animal design made out of towels and decorated with flowers. We left her a couple of dollars each day as well. Each evening when we came back, our bed was turned down and we had little chocolates. It was so sweet to feel pampered.
Some advice if you go--It is my opinion that the very few people I met who complained of a bad time were not prepared and had too much alcohol. Do your homework before you go-do a little research so you know what to expect. Also Pay Attention! Listen carefully to everything you are told from the time you get your trip paperwork on. If you do these 2 things, you should be ok. Try not to drink too much. If you spend your whole day in the hot sun drinking alcohol and go out at night and drink alcohol, you are left with a hangover and sunburn. Both of these can considerably lessen your enjoyment and comprehension. I saw this firsthand with people who couldn't remember what they did the night before, but complained that their room wasn't up to par.
Mexican time in general is relative. If the buffet is to open at 12:15, expect it to be closer to 12:30. A few minutes is nothing to them--except the transportation and excursion tour guides--they Will leave without you! Relax, remember you are on vacation and nothing is that important to get worked up about. Go with the flow! Hang out and enjoy the hot, humid sun while all your friends are digging their cars out of snowbanks!
Adios!
