Turned out okay

My husband and I just stayed at the Caribbean Village Playacar for four nights in June. Advertisement said short stroll to the beach, which was misrepresented. It is a 10-minute open-air shuttle ride. Breakfast was always good, but we always got a day pass to stay at one of the other Occidental Resorts. The Allegro, just down the street in Playa del Carmen was very nice, as well as the Allegro Cozumel, which the convenience of the passenger ferry was a bonus. Be prepared for a $15 cab ride from the ferry to the hotel in Cozumel. The rooms at the Carribbean Village were clean, but no luxuries at all -- no iron, hair dryer or simply a face-cloth. Not even a chair in the room. We had reserved a king room, but were informed upon check-in that they only had about 8 on the property -- another misrepresentation. The facility was clean, but at times I didn't feel secure. At one point, when returning to our room, we found the front door secured from the inside, however, the back sliding doors were unlocked. Was downplayed by the hotel staff. The staff was generally friendly and courteous.

A reasonable price

My wife and I stayed at this property from 12th-18th. It is nestled in a beautiful golf course. The property is not big and the rooms are inferior to many of the grandeur more expensive properties. Do not expect coffee maker, iron, facecloths here. If you plan to spend much time in your room you will not be happy. If you do not you will find them adequate. I would not spent 2 weeks here but 1 week was fine. The activities staff were great and most employees were friendly and courteous. The beach is a short shuttle ride and is a great beach with good activities and a beach bar and concession. The concession was good but when it was busy was slow (only had this problem once). Many Europeans and Canadians here. The main bar preety much the only bar other than the beach one,and a very small dark disco,is always quite busy and can be slow service at times. It is a great place to meet people though as lots congregrate here. It is poolside. We also stayed for 8 nights at the Allegro Cozumel which was much nicer. All in all this property is for younger and middle aged couples that are outgoing and not looking to be pampered and doted over. If you are going for a romantic quiet experience this many not be your spot. Definately not a luxurious accomodation.
