A Caribbean style Bed and Breakfast providing the descriminating traveler with a unique vacation experience while visiting Runaway Bay on the North Coast of Jamaica. Ocean View is a privately owned villa opening its doors to the special traveler who wants a unique vacation combined with the tranquility and privacy that only a villa can offer.
The two story white stucco villa has three bedrooms open to guests. Furnished with rich Jamaican crafted mahogany furniture and splashes of color, each is air conditioned with ceiling fans and private baths.
In true bed and breakfast style, the villa welcomes guests to the large upstairs living room with TV-satellite-VCR which opens onto a balcony with views of the Caribbean and cool green mountains.
The airy dining room opens to a view of the swimming pool area and is situated to capture the wonderful aromas coming from the kitchen--where the fruit basket is always full and so is the cookie jar.
The 16 x 40 fresh water pool is the focal point of the day. The place to be for swimming or just cooling off as you soak up the sun or catch up on your reading and napping. A private beach for villa guests is just 400 yards from the villa. Swim, snorkel or just walk along the clear, blue waters of the Caribbean.

Jamaica is the home of Blue Mountain Coffee, the most expensive coffee in the world! Linda and Leroy are serious coffee drinkers and guests will often come home to the smells of freshly roasted coffee beans. You won't find any Folgers or Taster's Choice at Ocean View.
Jamaica is home of jerk cooking. There are many casual roadside restaurants that serve jerk pork and chicken for a quick snack during the day. Click here if you can't wait and want to cook your own. If you are already a "jerk-head", have the Ocean View staff coordinate a trip for you to visit the mecca of "jerkdom", Boston Beach. A day trip to "The Graceland of Spicy Food" will a memory to cherish for years to come.
A wide variety of exotic fruits are continuously being harvested in Jamaica. Fresh fruit and juices are served with breakfast and guests can usually find something tasty to snack on during the day and night.

One of Jamaica's largest exports is sugar. Rum is one Jamaican product that incorporates this plentiful resource. The Appleton Estate is the largest rum distillery in Jamaica, producing over 200 million bottles of rum per year. A tour of this historic estate is great way to take in the culture and history of the island.
After you have watched a Caribbean sunset from the upper porch of Ocean View with a cold one in your hand, you'll know why it's Jamaica's #1 beer. Try it Jamaican style with a lime. You'll never want to drink another Corona.
A Glossary of Jamaican Foods!
ACKEE The fleshy yellow part of a seed pod from a local tree. Served boiled and cooked with flaked salt-fish and seasonings. Ackee and salt fish is the national dish of Jamaica and is usually served at breakfast with boiled bananas.
BAMMY Made with ground cassava and flattened into a round and served fried. Its main ingredient is cassava, one of the rare foods to the West Indies.
CALLALOO A hot vegetable that has been seasoned with onion and pepper. Used in soups and also served as a hot vegetable.
CHO-CHO A vine-type member of the squash family. Used in soups, stews and served as a cooked vegetable.
ESCOVEITCH FISH Fresh fish, pan-fried with a mixture of diced onions, hot country peppers, lime juice, allspice, salt, pepper, and vinegar. Served hot or cold and usually with bammy.
JERK-PORK AND CHICKEN A Jamaican tradition started at Boston Beach, near Port Antonio. The meat is seasoned with scotch bonnet peppers, allspice, cinnamon leaves and other local spices, then slowly roasted over pimento wood. Similar to smoked meat, but with a spicy flavor.
MATRIMONY A chilled dessert made of fresh fruit. Served with a sauce made from condensed milk, nutmeg and sugar.
PATTIES Whether its filled with spicy meat or spinach , these flaky puff pastries are as addictive as McDonald's french fries. Make sure and have a cold Red Stripe handy if you are eating a spicy beef patty. Their fiery filling will sneak up on you. You might even need a dip in the pool to squelch the fire.
PUMPKIN SOUP A thick, creamy soup made from small local pumpkins. The taste will pleasantly surprise you. It doesn't taste like pumpkin as you may know it-but it's delicious
RED PEA SOUP A rich red-colored broth filled with small red kidney beans and pieces of ham and chocked full of vegetables and dumplings. Slightly spicy and tasty.
BANANAS Bananas are eaten either "green" or "ripe" in Jamaica. Green bananas are boiled and added to soups and served with ackee and saltfish. There are many varieties of bananas and when ripe they are the sweetest you've ever tasted!
RICE and PEAS A must for every Sunday meal. Cooked red peas are added to rice flavored with thyme, pepper and coconut milk creating a distinct flavor. |
