Exceeding Expectations

This location was the ultimate retreat. We had the all inclusive option which was worth every dollar. As soon as you get there they give you a welcome drink and all beverages are top shelf. The room was spacious and housekeeping kept it immaculate. Horsebackriding and alot of other activities are included. We paid to parasail but, it was well-worth the view.
All staff greated us no matter what time of day it was. We were waited on the entire time. All of the food was fantastic. 24-hour room service included but, we never got a chance to use it. The beach was clean and safe (they have hotel security there the entire time). We enjoyed all of the restaurants and food. Even when walking thru the halls you could smell lemongrass oil. Everything looks brand new and the entire theme is zen like. They have events everynight. We attended the circus event, the live jazz as well as a Dominican themed dance and fire show. Very Trendy.
I would only caution the following: They have an onsite photography who took great shots of us. The pictures sell for $8 a picture. You will want all of them and they may tell you an outrageous figure. We talked them from $450 to $150 and got the disk. They may also have people try and have you attend some kind of Timeshare thing. We didn't. Other than that, we will be returning!

Beware of the Timeshare!
By: John Thayer from Deerfield, MA
Date of Visit: February 2007
During a recent stay at this hotel, my wife and I were repeatedly hounded by hotel employees attempting to get us to purchase a timeshare. We agreed to a "twenty" minute breakfast orientation. Well, three wasted vacation hours later, and after exposure to probably the best salespeople on the planet, we emerged as owners of a timeshare. We got a "special" $10K discount to buy on-site that would not be available if we waited until we got home. We felt ok with this as we had a five business day opt-out clause in the contract. On arriving home, we got very cold feet and exercised our opt-out clause within the five days (luckily, we made our purchase at the end of our week!). One month later, we have yet to have a refund of our deposit or any acknowledgement of the dissolution of our contract - only a recent bill for the balance. E-mails to Sol Melia Vacation Club go unanswered. For the world's largest resort chain, I find this reprehensible, dishonest, and perhaps criminal. The property itself is nice, as is the beach. The food is also pretty good for all-inclusive. Our particular room was a ground floor room that was plagued by mosquitoes. The construction of these rooms is very cheap and shoddy, and on two days during which it rained very heavily, we found the floor of our bed-room had leaked due to a closed, but poorly sealed window. One of the two sliding doors separating our room from the area where the children slept would not slide, and was not fixed during our stay, despite our request.

Paradisus Palma real

The resort itself is stunning, large pools. Food & bar service was good. Although, you need to make dinner reservations very early in your vacation as they book quickly. Beach was full of seaweed. Staff were spanish speaking, they did not understand or speak English very well, if you had a problem or required assistance this made it extremely difficult. When we arrived we were given a different room the we had paid for & were told they were overbooked. They would not upgrade even though it was their mistake.
