Relax, read a book, work on your tan!

We stayed at the Sea Aquarium Resort a few weeks ago. It was a fantastic trip. We booked on-line, we aren't timeshare owners.
The room was very large and nice. It, like all the other rooms at the resort, had an ocean view. Our room happened to look out over the Sea Aquarium, and we were able to watch the dolphin shows from our balcony. There was a nice view of the ocean and coastline too.
Housekeeping was very good, and the office staff was very helpfull. We didn't see the concierge until our third day, and she promptly set us up for the sales pitch/free breakfast. We didn't mind too much because we got to learn a lot about the resort and the surrounding area. But all in all, we got much more help from the office staff and security guards than from the concierge.
The Resort itself couldn't be more beautiful. The pool area, private beach and grounds all afford a breathtaking view of the ocean. We didn't use the pool at all. The beach is very nice. The sand is mixed with bits of coral, (like most of the beaches we went to in Curacao) so walk tenderly. The palm trees and landscaping are great for laying out, and there's excellent snorkelling right outside the cove. For the best views, go outside the breakwater. The water gets very clear out there, and it gets really deep, really quickly.
All of our dining took place within walking distance of the resort. The Resort's open air resturaunt is very good for breakfast and lunch. They've got great burgers and fries for around $8. We didn't eat dinner there. We ate dinner at Kon-tiki and at the Lion's Dive resort resturaunt, both of which are a short walk away. There are a couple other resturaunts nearby, but we didn't try them. So you can spend your entire at and near the resort, without renting a car. We rented one the last two days of our trip. (There's a rental counter at the Lion's Dive) And we ended up going to a beach (Grote Knip) on the north west tip of the island.
It was windy every day we were there. I guess the trade winds really work. It kept us comfortable in spite of the 90 degree heat.
All in all, I think the down sides for the trip were the sales pitch and concierge, and the fact that the island of Curacao needs a little cleanup. The good sides, the resort, beach and grounds are fantastic, water is wonderful and snorkeling is great.
We may go back someday, but will probably choose another island for our next caribean getaway, just to mix-it-up a bit.

Animal lovers' paradise!
By: Anonymous from Milwaukee, WI
Date of Visit: February 2005
We have traveled all over the Caribbean and this is one of the most fantastic places we have ever stayed! It is a great place for families or couples. The Sea Aquarium is next door, and all Sea Aquarium Resort guests have unlimited access to the aquarium with its theater, animal encounters, snorkeling, animal training demos, etc. You can check out the Sea Aquarium website to see all that is available. This is nothing like Sea World in the US--it is a true research and educational facility that takes its role of helping to educate the public quite seriously. There is also an intensive dolphin therapy program for handicapped children. Everything is handicapped accessible. The beaches in Curacao are sparkling clean, the food is excellent, and everyone is very helpful and friendly. You can do excellent snorkeling or diving right from the resort. I teach university courses in tropical ecology, oceanography, and marine biology and I would recommend this area to my students.
