Finally after reading some contradictory reviews I can tell my personal point of view.

I stayed at Arenas Doradas from 5th April to 13th April. We were a group of 29 people in our early twenties.
We didn’t know exactly what to expect, some said they loved it; others would say ‘never go there’.

Overall I can say it was not that bad but if I had to go to Varadero again I would definitely try another hotel.
Starting with the STAFF, they are definitely slow at doing things. Maybe we are just used to stress and rush in our lives but a little more speed in their actions would be nice. Also, they are not very nice (there are a few exceptions) and they are always expecting a tip, ALWAYS. If you want a special treatment I strongly recommend good tips.

The ROOMS were nothing special. Beds are not too comfortable. I’d suggest never putting your clothes in the wardrobe; you would probably find a bug among your shirts or jeans. Many rooms of our group had problems with bugs. Call it bad luck or whatever you want, but we killed three cockroaches in our room. I’m not even going to mention the mosquitoes, which I think it’s quite normal in a tropical place. As for the rooms’ cleanness, it’s definitely very bad. They wouldn’t even sweep the floor. I found the same very hairs in the same very places after the supposed cleaning session. And we tipped the maid, imagine if we didn’t! Sure, she did all you can imagine with towels (like swans) but I would prefer my room to be properly cleaned instead.

As for the FOOD it’s not as bad as I imagined. It depends whether you are picky or not. I think the main problem is that it’s repetitive. As for the Natura restaurant (the one you have to book at the reception) it’s not worth it. Nothing special. The ones by the beach or the pool bring nothing new but they are good for lunch as they are nearer to the pool or the beach. The breakfast is good; specially the croissants.

The BEACH is great. Although it was a bit windy in the last days, the first ones were great. The POOL is nice too but it’s not as big as it looks like.

The ANIMATION was bit boring, specially the dancing lessons (lol) and the night shows (I fell asleep in all of them). Here we are used to a great nightlife which it’s something that does not exist in Cuba.

Obviously a four star hotel in Cuba it’s no more than a three star hotel in Europe, so if you want something really decent try a five star hotel… Nonetheless we had a great time.

these reviews before going, and I got really frightened because of all of the negative things that I heard of this particular hotel.
I was not looking forward for my vacation, but the moment I stepped in I was Absolutely Amazed. The resort is amazing, and words cannot describe it! I almost cried because I didn't get to my my videocamera. The staff at Arenas Doradas are like your best friends. You go clubbing with them, swimming working out. The Staff members work 24/7 to make your trip amazing, and no matter what the weather is like they always have something to entertain you with. I won dance contest and recieved bottles of Mulata Rum, which was a treat.
I don't know why people complain about the drinks. The drinks were great! They had a great variety! theres a Bar almost everywhere you go, the best one is in the lobby, and yes they serve you alcohol in a glass.
The food, well there is a huge variety, the cooks work so hard to give you everything you have at home. Theres many places to choose from, like the beach restaurant (i didn't really like it), the restaurant upstairs, the buffet restaurant, the pool restaurant, and the 24 hour restaurant. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner is always something to look forward to because there is always something different. Anything from 20 different kinds of breads, to pasta, fish, steak and cuban foods.
NOW KEEP IN MIND, these foods are not PASTERIZED, therefore that would be one of the reasons you would get sick. The pizza, they served me at the pizzeria, the meat was not entirely cooked, therefore I got extremely sick and almost rushed to the local cuban hospital. The nurse at the hospital was amazing, she gave me massages, and took care of me like a mother! Do not blame the foods, because they are not disgusting, and 'disgusting' is not an excuse to getting sick. In Canada, for example our foods ar very tasteful, with lots of different herbs and spices. Cuba's food is bland, so I brought some spice of my own. Overall the food was terrific and you cannot complain.

The BEACH was Magnificent, It was prettier than the commercials!! its like a minute walk from you room! It was large, and very clean!

The rooms, are kept clean and tidy. The maids do an excellent job cleaning, and they even decorated our room very perfessionally. We tipped front desk a couple dollars, and they upgraded us to a master bedroom! And for some of you who love T.V, They have Satellite with all the latest movies.

I wouldn't recommend the trip to Habana, because when we got there it was soo hot, no where to go and cool off, and people kept bugging you for you to pay them so they could show you around. We wondered around till we were about to pass out. Remember it is terribly hot in the Capital, and not much places to go cool off. We had to pay to go and sit in the parliament building for the following 4 hours till we got home.

We also rented Mopedes and rode down to the town area, and it is amazing to see how these people live there lives!! completely different from my home country.
Before I keep rambling on about Cuba and Arenas Doradas, All i have to say is that i recommend this Hotel to everyone. I checked EVERY resort, and arenas doradas is the only resort, with the biggest beach, the cleanest beach, the prettist resort with the most entertainment for everyone of all ages.
