Fabulous Week at Villa Las Glorias

Our extended family of 9 stayed at Villa Las Glorias from 8/9/2008-8/16/2008. Las Glorias is a beautiful home and is exactly as depicted in the photos on-line. Although the weather called for 30-60% chance of rain each day, we experienced no more than 5 minutes of rain over the course of the week. There are 4 nice bedrooms with private bathrooms, while the 5th bedroom uses a bathroom in the hall and has no shower; another downside to the 5th bedroom is that all of the cabinets are locked, so you have to lay your clothes on top of the cabinets/shelves in the room and your hanging items have to go in other bedrooms. The maid service was terrific - In the interest of full disclosure: (1) the dishwasher was not working when we arrived, but was fixed within 2 days, (2)the washer/dryer is not available for guest use, but the maid can do your laundry for $5/load, (3) the gas grill did not work. The beach has lots of crused shells on it, so those of us with sensitive feet found it difficult to walk on. The ocean directly in front of the house is loaded with coral (great for snorkeling), but there is easy walk-in ocean access about 100 yards to the left at Carlos & Charlies and Paradise Beach. While these two pool clubs are close to the Villa, we were never inconvenienced by any noise or crowds. The beach area in front of the Villa is relatively empty and it would be easy to lay on the beach in a lounge chair without anyone ever walking by. A few of us went scuba diving and were picked up at the closest wooden pier which is about 150 yards down the beach to the right.
The pool is unique with three different sections - a square shape about 4 ft deep on one end, a very shallow middle for sitting or laying down, and a rectangular end with bench seating. The pool area had lots of lounge chairs and a nice palapa for shade.
We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to family and friends.
Our typical day involved eating breakfast and lunch at the Villa and lounging in the pool or ocean, followed by dinner in downtown San Miguel which is about a 15-20 minute ride. We ate at three beach front restaurants: Coconuts, Paradise on the Beach, and Chen Rio; all the food was good, however, we liked Chen Rio's the best. In San Miguel, we tried Pancho's Backyard, Kinta, Casa Denis and El Foco. I would recommend all of these, however, Kinta had the most varied and interesting menu. We rented cars, so I'm not sure how much a taxi would cost.

A Must!

We were a group of 8, 4 couples. We just got back from staying at Villa Las Glorias in Cozumel. This was the best vacation. The house was great, the location amazaing. So many things made this trip but the chef service with Maida and her daughter was the best. I figured the food would be okay but it was so much more than that. Well worth the money. The fact that we were within 100 yards of Carlos and Charlies and their amazing food and drinks was great but the fact that they delivered it to our house was above and beyond. The pluses: fishing trip, snorkeling, pool, beach within 30 yards, seclusion... all amazing. Lots of stuff within walking distance but bring boat shoes for the beach and snorkeling. We brought floats for the pool too.. another plus. If you get a chance, go to Money Bar for amazing fish viewing while snorkeling. Seven days just wasn't enough. Will recomend this to anyone I know.
