Villa Caracoles is a modern Mexican-style beach-front home. The property sits atop one of Cozumel's highest points. The view from the top of this small cliff looks down into the blue waters of the Caribbean sea where the famous Tunich reef forms. In front of the house, down below the fifteen-foot cliff, the water is about five feet deep. It's a diver's dream to live so close to the reefs. 5 bedrooms, 5.5 baths.
The entrance to the property greets you with a beautifully landscaped yard filled with an abundance of naturally occurring indigenous plants as well as flowering tropical plants of all colors. The entrance from the street side of the house welcomes you with a walled outside court yard filled with lush potted plants and a traditional Mexican water fountain. Overhead, the stained glass window depicting a shell compliments the front of the house and makes "shells" the name of the house as well as a theme.
The mahogany double doors of the fully air-conditioned home lead to a marble hallway that looks down into the sunken living room setoff by large natural stone columns and arches. The marble floors, natural rock with shells inlayed, and mahogany used throughout the house accent the Mexican-style architecture of the design. The heavy overhead wooden beams, talavera light fixtures, and decorative tiles used in the kitchen and bathroom finish the look with style.
The living area has rattan furniture and a large wooden entertainment center hand-carved with shells. The entertainment center is equipped with a stereo, TV, VCR, CD's and videos for your use during your stay.
The kitchen and dining area is to the right of the entrance. The mahogany cabinetry combined with decorative tiles is stocked with pots, pans, dishes, and all the basics. There is also a microwave, stove, oven, blender, coffee maker and electric juicer.
There is a beautiful outside kitchen with a four-burner stove top, and a covered gas barbeque grill. There are two sinks, and cooking ware for your convenience. It is located next to the outside patio area overlooking the landscape and the sea beyond.
There are four bedrooms in the main part of the house and another bedroom separated by a side entrance. Three bedrooms are on the first floor at street level, each with double bed and a private bathroom. Each of these has its own entrance from the outside. One faces the beach and goes out onto the communal back patio. One faces the street side and has an exit onto its own private patio. The mahogany doors frame the glass windows looking onto the patio and landscaped yard. The other bedroom on this level was designed to be the servant's quarters, but has been decorated very nicely with beautiful rattan furniture to serve as a guest bedroom. It has its own bathroom, shower and closet. Its entrance is from the north side of the house, separated from the main house by a small hall.
There is also a half bath in the hall for guest's convenience. Just off the hall from the guest bathroom is a door that takes you outside to the south side of the house. Here, you will find the diver's dip tank area and access to the front and back yards. Next to the entrance hall is the mahogany hand-made staircase leading upstairs to the second level and other bedrooms.
The washer and dryer is not available for guest´s use. Replacement parts for such machines make it hard to repair washers and dryers so we want to keep the use minimal. The island also has a water shortage, so we try to limit the water — which is another reason we can´t offer this amenity. The maid will use these for washing linen only. Please do not ask us for permission to use these. We know of several laundry services that we are happy to recommend.
The second story hallway overlooks the sunken living room. To the north of the stairs is the master bedroom. It is spacious and has a king size bed. The private bathroom is luxurious. There is a large two-person tub surrounded by glass windows on three sides. There are two vanities with sinks, and a large shower area as well. There is a mahogany-framed double glass door that goes out onto the large second-story upstairs furnished patio. The patio overlooks the downstairs yard and ocean-front scene.
The other upstairs bedroom has a king-size bed and private bathroom as well as it's own access to the upstairs patio. This patio is one of the best ways to enjoy the Cozumel sunshine. One of the main architectural features is the winding concrete staircase that connect the upstairs and downstairs patios. This stairway makes it possible for guests in both upstairs bedrooms to have direct access to the backyard and ocean area without having to walk through the inside of the house. The upstairs bedrooms also have a unique window feature. Amber stained-glass double windows with mahogany frames open into the elegant space overlooking the downstairs mezzanine. They are usually kept closed for optimum privacy. There are also other upstairs windows on the vast far wall of the mezzanine that may be opened from the outside. These high windows add a unique touch to the Mexican beams on the highest part of the roof line.
Just outside the living area is the large furnished patio overlooking the outdoor Jacuzzi and ocean view. Adjoined to this patio is another patio on the south side of the house which leads you to the diver's clean up area. The area includes a dip tank for your gear with a curved rod by the area to hang things on to dry.
The outdoor Jacuzzi is spacious enough for six to eight people at a time and has over ten jets. Small children with their parents will enjoy the pool area and all of the beaches at different depths to play on. There is a small natural path of rocks and parts of ancient coral that leads off of the cliff to a sandy beach access. Villa Caracoles is truly a Caribbean paradise providing luxurious and elegant accommodations as well as the beautiful setting of the property and comforts of the home itself.
The home owners of Villa Caracoles have asked that there be no smoking inside their home. All bedrooms have access to patios and terraces. We have provided ash trays to be used for these outside areas for smokers to use. Please do not smoke inside this villa.
