Very nice

Spent a week in February 2007 (not 2006). Nice clean room w/king bed. Staff very helpful and courteous. Good (not great) food, and plenty of it. Overall, a positive experience, and we will probably return within the next year or two. I recommend this resort for families and mature couples.

Almost Perfect

We stayed at the end of March '06 and found everything at the resort to be above standard. The staff were always helpful and would do just about anything to make your stay pleasant. The food was excellant and had good variety at the buffets. The alacarts were also okay especially when you remembered where you were.

Wonderful Honeymoon

My husband and I had a wonderful time at this resort. It was the first time to a tropical region for both of us. We met wonderful people there that we still keep in touch with. The only thing that disappointed me was the beach - I thought it would be all sand, but we still had fun snorkeling. I would definitely recommend it to any first-timers!

Would never return

Where to start, well we had emailed sometime earlier to request a king bed and an upper cabin, when we arrived we were given a room with 2 double beds and a lower.The bathroom had water leaking from the cieling and the smell in the room was awful. When we requested to move our room they said that they would try the next day and they did. The new room had a king bed that was as hard as sleeping on the floor. The bad smell was still in this room and we were told by other guests that all the rooms smelled this way. Our bathroom sink had a hole in the drain pipe that was only covered with plumbers putting and it eventully fell out causing all the water to run all over the floor. It was hard to believe that this resort was (a) only five years old and (b) to be rated a 4 star resort. I guess the funniest thing to happen was that every day around 11am they would run out of drink glasses and for the remainder of the day we would have our drinks in foam cups. You had to like the food because it was the same thing everyday. We had stayed at Costa Dorada 2 years earlier and that was why we choose this resort. I probalbly will never return to an Iberstar resort again because of this experance.

Generally--very good. Room is very nice--food has excellent choise and of course the diving variety is great. Dive shop is very helpful but somewhat disorganized but the people are very nice.
Only thing that I would improve apon is the TV reception. Perhaps a movie chanel--CNN--or alike --for the evening if one does not want to go to the show.

Great Stay at the Iberostar

I greatly enjoyed my stay at the Iberostar. The resort is beautiful with cabanas/buildings that each contained about 4 units. It's a large property spread out over a large area, so it's it can be a bit of a walk either to the beach or to the front of the resort depending on where your room is.
The food was average to good. Nothing to complain about but it was not fine dining.
I love the location of the resort. It's on the southern tip of the island and it's VERY close to the dive sites. Usually within 10 minutes you are on top of the reefs. Which beats the usual 25+ minute ride from the hotels farther north.
The staff was friendly and helpfull and perhaps one of the most professional on the island.
I find the Iberostar to be one of the most 'tropical' feeling hotels on the island. Though it's spread out it is has a great charm. Great pool area and bar.
Beach: Don't go for the 'soft sandy dream beach' if this is your thing. The sand is bit 'grainy' and hard but quite beautiful with palm trees fringing the beach. Once in the water there are small rocks lying about. Many people wore there 'beach shoes' in the water though not necessary.
My room was more the fine and in good shape. A/C worked like a charm. Bed was a tad firm but not overly hard in my opinion. Clean. Fresh towels.
Diving was fantastic as usual and I had no problem with having my usual dive operator, Emerald Divers, come pick me up on the Iberostar pier.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel. For couples, singles and familes.

Don't Go!!!

We went to Cozumel in January of 2005. It was the worst resort we have ever stayed at. The food was the worst. The buffet, the Mexican, and the steak place were all equally horrible. Our beds were like rocks. Our electricity went off twice. One thing that really made me angry was the travel people on staff. He told us not to take a ferry over to Plya. We went anyway. It was beyond wonderful! The only thing good about Iberostar was the evening shows put on by the staff. They were great!!!!!

We have stayed here twice and it is absolutely a 'Tropical Paradise.' We love the atmosphere and the feel of the Mexican culture that you do not get in a 'run-of-the-mill' hotel.

Not for Advanced Divers

I have been traveling to Cozumel and Diving the area for over 25 years. I booked the Iberostar (June 2004) and took my wife for a vacation for her and diving for me. I chose the Iberostar after reading the reviews on line. I made a big mistake.
The hotel itself is OK and the food and service are great. The staff is some of the best on the Island but if you plan to dive with an independent operator beware.
I asked the desk when I checked in if there was any problem with having a private boat pick me up at the Iberostar dock and was assured there would not be a problem. Believe me there is a big problem.
The Iberostar staff on the dock did not want me to board the boat that arrived for me but I jumped on and had a good afternoon of diving. On the return the staff on the dock would not let my boat up to the dock even after I talked to them. I finally talked one of the resort boats into taking me and my gear aboard and then they let me off on the dock. It was stupid, dangerous and totally out of order for the hotel dock staff to force the issue.
I had the same problem the next day even after discussing this with the management. I was told that private boats must post a bond and other such red tape in order to pick up the Iberostar guests. What I believe I was hearing was that if you do not use the Iberostar diving facility do not plan on them making it easy on you.
We checked with several other dive operators and found that the Iberostar started this several months ago and they are the only resort on the Island that does so.
If you plan on diving with independent divers while in Cozumel do not stay at the Iberostar. If you like good food, good staff and terrible beds stay at the Iberostar.
From now on I go back to the good old reliable downtown hotels. I will be close to restaurants, evening walks in the plaza, shopping and a taxi to the harbor to catch my dive boat each day.
