Amazing Time!

If you are considering a Cozumel vacation, then Occidental Allegro Cozumel should be your final destination.

We just returned and we were pleasantly surprised with the resort after last summer's hurricanes. The guestroom villas renovation is all but complete and the rooms are comfortable with new furniture and tile floors, etc. Our rooms were wonderful! The grounds are replanted and also looked amazing. The staff were all so friendly even when we ran into an employee off-site on his day off. There was a wide variety of activities for all ages.

For the money, this resort was just what we wanted for some fun, sun, relaxation, great location (away from spring breakers), beautiful beach, immaculate rooms and generous porches/decks! We will stay at the Allegro for our next Cozumel vacation!

Awesome, Would Go Back Any Day!!!

We went in August, for a wedding on the beach! There were 23 people in our group! We had the best time, lots of activities, lots of food, great shows in the evening! For being 3 months along with my second child, I found plenty to eat & drink! The servers on the beach were great, they are VERY nice and quick! They kept our drinks coming! The first day there was a little difficult to get used to the heat, but after the second day we got used to it! We went on a glass bottom boat ride which was awesome, the guides were great! We spent a couple nights in town, I highly suggest stopping by Senor Frogs, you will have a blast!! We also rented a Jeep for a day just to drive around the island! I cant say enough about this resort! We had a great time! One of the things we like was watching the little lizzards/geckos crawling on our walls outside our door! The huge lizzards/geckos like to bathe in the sun in your yard, that was great! I would deffently suggest a stay at the Occidental Allegro Cozumel Resort. If you have any questions please feel free to email me.

Not a good place

We were so excited, everything we had read for the most part looked great about this place. It was awful. I guess its all in what you are accustomed to. Our room stunk really bad and the a/c didn't work well. There was a live mouse in the closet that jumped into our bed. The floor was really dirty and so was everything else. There was actually urine on the toilet. We ate lunch at their buffet and it was awful. The service was terrible. Did not like this place at all. We transferred to the Occidental Grand which was up the road about a mile and it was absolutely fantastic. Cost a little to upgrade but it was worth every penny. Awesome place.

Amazing Place!

My husband and I went to the Allegro Resort in Cozumel, Mexico for our honeymoon. We chose Cozumel because the two of us are avid divers and loved the location. However, we enjoyed our stay at the resort So much that we decided to stay there and not 'venture out' this time (we both have been to Cozumel before).

We have nothing but awesome memories, not just because it was our honeymoon but because of the quality of service the place provided. Everyday there was a full range of activities planned if you so chose to participate (our favorite - taquilla volleyball and the ever common beach volleyball) and the chance to actually ocean kayak to having a VERY romatic 5 star dinner actually ON the beach!

The staff was amazing and the place was perfect!! We are actually planning for our next trip there this year and are really looking forward to the trip!

We recommend this resort to anyone who wants some quiet time together but yet still able to enjoy activites as well. We even recommended this property to another couple of ours who actually stayed there for their honeymoon last August!!

Very very nice. Wonderful Time

I was at first hesitant about booking at the Allegro by some of the reviews I had read on the internet but after going I have to ask....where did you people stay? It was great. I am going to write this review in all fairness so other will have a clear and true idea of what this location offers. Let's start with the rooms.....they were nice (bungalow style) with seperate air conditioning units in each room. The rooms were very clean and tidy and we never had a problem getting anything we needed. We always had fresh towels, wash cloths, soap, shampoo, and bottled water. The only thing to know is if you plan on sleeping late put your do not disturb sign up because the cleaning staff starts early. The only time we spent in our room was to shower and sleep so there is not much I can write on here.....if you complain about your room you were probably in it too much...you are in Cozumel....what are you doing in your room.

The food was very good.....breakfast, lunch and dinner. We ate at the main resteraunt every day for breakfast and dinner and always found something to eat. My wife and I are both picky eaters but we never went hungry. If you like fried foods hit the buffet by the pool at lunch...they have hamburgers, hotdogs, french fries, etc.....very good. The drinks were great and there were always glasses available.

The grounds were very clean, trimmed, and well kept. It was a very pretty resort. We looked at several others after arriving and talked to many people from other resorts and it sounded like the Allegro is the place to stay. The beach is fantastic with plenty of room and the pools are great. The only tip I can give here is if you want a cabana to sit under get up early and reserve them with your towels.

The thing I was most impressed with was the staff. They were all great and they all spoke English well. They were very attentive and always willing to help. The Activity staff was 'Great and First Class'......they were always doing something with the guests and they were excellent with children. They put on shows everynight that werer great! I can not say enough about the staff.....TOP RATE!

Here are a few tips.......if you want to go shopping depending on what you are looking for do not go to the Cozumel Market Place. It stinks......the shops with not barter because they receive plenty of business from the cruise ships during the day. The shop owners are actually rude. The best deals we found were when we were leaving. The airport has several nice shops with almost any souvenier you could want at the same or lower prices than in town. We did rent a car to go into town.....here are the prices....$35 for a mopad......$45 for a VW Bug (old one)......$55 for a Geo Tracker.......$65 for a Jeep.......but you will realize that was a waste of money to get into town once you go to the shops. Save your money and simply buy your souveniers at the Airport unless you are looking for something specific.

Make sure while you are there go by the dive shop and book a dive tour with Dive Palancar. My wife and I went snorkling and it was well worth it. It cost $45 each for a 4 hour snorkling tour. We got some great pictures and had a wonderful time. It was probably the highlight of the trip. Food and drinks were supplied on the tour and the people running it were knowlegeable and very nice.

A rough start turned into a very nice vacation. We arrived too early to check in, but the hotel had temp. facility for us to manuvre anything we needed to do. We were content with the food and accomodations. What bowled us over was the activities crew. They were 110% everyday for the four days we were there. I think they averaged a 14 hour work day. During the day, they had plenty of pool and sand activities to interest anyone. During the evenings, they did variety shows which again, bowled us over with singing and laughter.

Awesome 20 Year Anniversary

All I can say is we had a wonderful time and don't understand the bad ratings given by some visitors. We went for our 20 Year Anniversary and will definitely go back. The water was beautiful, the staff excellent and more than willing to do what it took to make our stay as comfortable and fun as possible. The rooms were as good or better than most motels we've stayed in. We didn't go down there to stay in our room, but when we retired for the night, we slept very well. The food was great, also. If there are complaints about the food, it would be too much food to choose from and I didn't have room left to try it all. I know we gained a few pounds while being there. I would definitely recommend the Occidental Allegro if you want fun in the sun and water and like to eat, swim, snorkel and dive. Next year we are going back and taking our girls. They are going to love it and there's plenty of activities for kids. We are counting the minutes till our next visit.

I don't understand the complaints on this board. Sure the rooms were not 'Grand', but you don't go to an Island Resort to stay in your room. As far as the plumbing, you are in another country which does not have the same fresh water resources and facilities as the rest of North America. If we lacked anything we just asked and we received. We found the staff to be absolutely terrific, helpful and very friendly. Did the complainers talk to any of the staff? You would understand just how privileged we are to be vacationing where these people live (the staff makes $4 (USD) a day for the hours they put in) and have to wear stifling uniforms on top of it. Although the package we bought included gratuity we were so pleased that we did tip the staff that did great jobs. We could have done without some of the more obnoxious and rude guests but that comes with the territory. The snorkeling was terrific offered through the resort (for $30 USD) so our two trips to the mainland for snorkeling were not necessary. We just got back home yesterday and are already planning our trip back for next year.

Fun In The Sun

We went here from Feb 13-23 and it turned out to be the best vacation I have ever been on.

The staff was the best when you left their you felt as if they were your friends and you were leaving them. They really knew how to get people into whatever activity was going on and you all had fun no matter wht it was.

Although the rooms are not the best you will find that you rarely spend any time in them anyway. The food was excellent except for the dinner buffet. I HIGHLY recomend the italian restaurant especially if you Love Calamari.

I have never really left there in my head. Sometime this month (Its now March 4) I need to get back into the working thing in real life again! Cozumel and the Occidental Allegro is a Very very relaxing place and the entire staff deserves raises!

We stayed at the Allegro Cozumel for 8 nights after being transfered from the Caribbean Village on the mainland after 6 nights. Our group of nine, all adults loved this property. The buffet was good as far as a buffet goes and the al carta restaurants very good. The location is very good as far as its beach and being close to some good reefs for snorkeling and diving. It is a ways from town however, about 20 minutes, compared to the Caribbean village which was 5 min from Playa del Carmen. Staff was friendly and courteous to us as we were to them. Seeing some rude and obnoxious guests there I am not surpised that some may get the same treatment in return. We did have 1 room out of 5 that did have some plumbing problem. We found the staff to be very prompt in correcting and accomodating any concerns that arose.

If it wasn't for the weather and the beach it would have been a disaster. Our first morning we had no running water. The telephone didn't work, and no drinking water. We didn't recieve a bar of soap until our third day, and shampoo on our 4th. Each time we went to eat, they would try to sell us a time share. The best food was a hotdog @ the snack bar. You could hear everything in the surrounding rooms. The top shelf liqour is also a lie. We did have some excellent service from Carlos, Migual, Rusel, and Marteen...Thanks

We had such a great time at the Allegro last March that we decided on the plane ride home to return this March 2003. The activity staff was superb, kept guests involved & having fun. If there is a problem, say so & they will remedy it. Beach & grounds were beautiful. Snorkeling was great, swim up bar was my favorite, hammocks everywhere. Rooms do need some updating but believe me when I say that yoy are never in them but to sleep, shower & change clothes. Food different, but you're in another country. Would recommend a trip here & have already to many.

Spent a glorious week here in April 2001 and returned for my honeymoon in May 2002. This is the best beach on the Mayan Riveria. Highest level of service I've received at three different AI resorts in the area.

This property as well as the one in Playa del Carmen has the worst food, personnel and rooms in a 4 1/2 star category. The rooms are so tight that you can not walk in between the two double beds. The rooms have a musty smell as well. The grounds are well maintained and the pool areas are nice, but the staff is horrible. This beach is rocky and you need water shoes if you want to go into the ocean. Just a little further down the road is the Iberostar, I highly recommend this property.
