Beachside resort offers 22 rooms, complete dive shop, Mayan ruins, jungle, rivers, library, massage, restaurant and bar . . . in an atmosphere that is one of informal luxury, and truly gives one that magical tropical environment.
LOCATION: Rum Point Inn is located on the beautiful beaches of the Placencia Peninsula, two and one half miles north of the friendly Creole fishing village of Placencia. Southern Belize is perfect for “getting away from it all”, and Rum Point Inn is the perfect place to experience this colorful and authentic area. We provide easy and complimentary access to the local airstrip, where several flights are available daily from Belize City.
Rum Point Inn sits on a sweeping point surrounded by the turquoise and blue waters of the Caribbean Sea. We offer one of the largest expanses of beautiful white sand beach in the area, and there’s always a chair available in the sun or a chaise under one of the palm-roofed palapas. The 10-acres of grounds are “paved” with winding, sand walkways, and they are resplendent with gorgeous tropical flowers and trees. The Main Lodge is a traditional, Caribbean colonial wood structure, while all of the Guest accommodations are housed in very unique, white-washed concrete structures. The atmosphere is one of informal luxury, and truly gives one that magical tropical environment.
MAIN LODGE: The Main Lodge at Rum Point Inn has become our Guests’ favorite hangout – and for good reason! It is at once an ideal place for solitude or quiet reading, as well as the heart of our perfectly-paced social activities. You will find our friendly and helpful Front Office, where you’ll check in for all your needs, not just your room key. Our great staff can assist you with telephone services, help you arrange your daily tours, reconfirm flights and generally aid in whatever will make your trip more enjoyable. And then there’s the famous Rum Point Library. A personal passion for the owners, George and Corol Bevier, The Library has an extensive collection on Belizean Culture, Natural History and Maya Studies. There are also plenty of novels, reference works, and periodicals. There is ample lounge seating, and the Library houses the only television at Rum Point Inn (which you’ll probably never watch). Next there is the welcoming Rum Point Bar, a warm and intimate room with beautiful handcrafted local Belizean woods and a wonderful collection of ancient bottles and pipes, found by snorkelers right in front of Rum Point Inn. Of course we’ll serve up any of your favorites, and we offer an ample wine list, but we’re known for our Rum Point Rum Punch! Our Gift Shop features local crafts, beachwear, souvenirs and books. There is also a wide selection of fly fishing flies for that big catch.
Perhaps the best part of the Main Lodge is the breezy Verandah with its sweeping views of the Caribbean Sea. The lovely colonial style porch is strung with colorful family size hammocks for the ultimate in lazy relaxation. There is plenty of cushioned seating, and the breezes from the sea are cooling and invigorating. Most of our Guests gravitate to the Verandah for a good part of their day or evening!
ABOUT RUM POINT INN - Rum Point Inn, where personalized service is the rule and the unique ambiance is famous, has been run by the Bevier family since it's opening in 1974.
George and Corol Bevier came to Belize with their four children in 1971. After many years of travel and living in Latin America, they selected Belize as the perfect place to offer guests a truly unique and varied experience, encompassing many of their own personal interests, including the protection of Belize's ecology, the reef, natural history and Maya culture.
In conjunction with their interest in the Belizean environment, the Beviers have endeavored to make Rum Point as Green a hotel as possible and joined in efforts to conserve and protect the natural resources of both the peninsula and the country.
At Rum Point you will be cosseted in a spacious exotic setting nestled in your own oasis, a sculpted dome Cabana within feet of the tranquil Caribbean or one of our air-conditioned Garden Suites. The social hub of the resort is the Main Lodge, a colonial style building dating from the 1950's. Here you will find the Library and the magnificent, hammock hung Verandah! Here also is our seaside tropical Dining Room where imaginative meals are created daily.
We share with you 10 beachfront Cabañas and 12 air-conditioned Suites with a special flair that will enhance your stay with us at Rum Point Inn. Each spacious room, with either a king or two queen beds and many with a convertible sofa, enjoys a private bath, ceiling fan, personal safe, coffee maker and refrigerator. These rooms are furnished with locally designed and made Belizean hardwood furniture, local art, and Guatemalan fabrics created especially for Rum Point Inn.
Rum Point Inn is a special place for your Wedding! Over the years couples have opted to say their vows on the verandah... a palapa... the beach. And when you Honeymoon here, Rum Point Inn and Belize will remain in your hearts forever. |
DINING: The Rum Point Inn Dining Room has earned and maintained an excellent reputation for memorable food and atmosphere. The environment is true Belize, with wonderful views of the sea, lively breezes through raised, handcrafted shutters, and Belizean mahogany and teak throughout. Our delicious cuisine is among the best in Belize! This year our seaside dining room is enhanced under the guidance of Ms. Radiance Rowney. Radiance has international training and furthers our reputation for fine dining. We also offer a fine wine list to complement our food.
We serve a bountiful Breakfast from 7:00 a.m. 'til 9:00 a.m., Lunch from 11:30 a.m. 'til 2:00 p.m. and our fabulous, four-course Dinner from 6:00 p.m. 'til 8:30 p.m. The daily changing menu captures the freshest foods available, which are then expertly prepared blending local and international ingredients with a tropical “twist”. All breads, rolls and pastries are baked here in the Rum Point Kitchen. A specially prepared picnic lunch is carried on many of our tours. If you have any special dietary requirements tell us when reserving space, or at the front office, and we will do our best to accommodate. Radiance will be happy to meet with you to discuss your preferences. Naturally we are happy to provide early lunch and breakfast for our fishermen to carry. |
Rum Point Divers is the dive division of RUPEL( Rum Point Enterprises, Ltd.) located at Rum Point Inn. The Rum Point Divers shop offers snorkeling and SCUBA trips on a daily basis.
The boat leaves every morning at 9:00 am and returns between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m.. We provide all the gear you will need. The boats at Rum Point Inn are led by the premier dive boat in the area, the 42ft. jet boat AURIGA II. Rum Point Divers has an air compressor and keeps 80 80cu. ft. tanks, and a few 67 cu ft and 52 cu ft available for our guests.
We have our dive sites marked by G.P.S. to insure we are in the right spot with out having to drop an anchor on the living coral reefs below (Click Here for a map of dive sites). Each boat carries a first aid kit, oxygen, and marine band radio and the crew is trained in CPR and First Aid. The Captain and the Divemasters are all insured and in good standing with PADI. All are licensed Tour Guides. We want to assure the passengers that, although we are remote, we are taking every precaution to ensure the safety of our guests.
Rum Point Divers is a sponsor of the DAN program and is also involved with the hyperbaric chamber program in San Pedro. We charge a $1US per tank fee to insure our guest in the unlikely event that should there be a diving related injury, they will be financially covered for transport and admission to the facility in San Pedro. This service is also useful for the diver who is already insured by the DAN program, as this service will cover the initial deductible.
Rum Point Inn and Rum Point Divers have been actively involved in the Placencia and Belizean conservation community for over 25 years. From the beginning we supported the development of the National Park at Laughing Bird Caye. Rum Point Divers and the crew helped with the initial survey and establishment of the base line for the management and monitoring plan of the National Park.
Another great way to enjoy the water is to snorkel or SCUBA. Rum Point Inn has a dive shop on site - Rum Point Divers. Rum Point Divers uses the boats at the Rum Point Inn, led by the 42 foot jet boat AURIGA II. The guides for Rum Point Divers are all insured PADI Instructors and Divemasters in good standing. The boats are well equipped with safety features including radio, oxygen, first aid kits and a GPS satellite locator. There are currently 40 GPS located sites within a 400 sq. mile area. To get an idea of some of the areas which we go to, for both snorkeling and diving.
The boat leaves the dock at Rum Point Inn at 9:00 a.m. We go to one of the cayes and let the snorkelers off with their own guide (who is a certifed divemaster and licensed local guide) and the boat then goes out to a nearby dive site. After the first dive the divers will come back to the island for a gas off period and all will have lunch together. After lunch the divers will have their second dive at another nearby spot. After this dive is complete the boat will come in to the island, pick up the snorkelers, and head back to the mainland. We usually get back to Rum Point Inn between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. depending on the site selected for the day. Each day the sites are selected based on the weather conditions, experience level of the group, and where the group has already been. |

There are two local airlines (Maya Island Air and Tropic Air) that have numerous daily flights to the Placencia Airstrip from throughout Belize. There are also smaller air companies that do private charters. The average flight time is 40 minutes. We can arrange these flights for you, we will just need to know your international carrier's itinerary. Avis, Budget and National Car Rentals have branches in Belize City, should one wish to drive to Rum Point. Do expect the drive to take anywhere from 3 to 6 hours (one way), depending on the road conditions - which vary depending on the weather. There are very few road signs or street lights on this route. Lastly, there is a daily scheduled bus service direct to Placencia from Belize City. This ride is the longest of all - taking anywhere from 6 - 8 hours, as there are various layovers and stops along the way.
Rum Point Inn is located on the Placencia Peninsula in the Stann Creek District about 60 air miles south of Belize City or 100 miles by road. The Peninsula defines the Placencia Lagoon and runs parallel to the coast of Belize for about 12 miles. The Lagoon is about three miles wide at the widest point near the mouth of the lagoon. The tip of the Peninsula is where the village of Point Placencia is found.
Rum Point Inn is located just north of the Airstrip. 2.5 miles north is the Garifuna village of Seine Bight, also with a population of about 600. Here too are several facilities for tourism, including an artist, Lola Delgado. Learn more of the local culture such as WASABAHARI. Four miles north of Seine Bight is the community of Maya Beach. There are several small resorts, eating spots and homes for about forty individuals.
