Situated on the beach of a remote peninsula in the pristine Stann Creek region, close to jungle habitats, vast expanses of fruit and mangrove forests, lagoons and rivers, inlets, islands, and the Caribbean Sea.
It is our pristine Caribbean environment? The Mayan and seafaring influences that still live within our culture? Perhaps it’s our sea and jungles, our rivers, islands, inlets, and lagoons, where endangered species like the manatee and jaguar, the toucan and howler monkey, still thrive in their native habitats.
If you’re drawn to Belize for adventure, study, inspiration, or curiosity, Calico Jack’s welcomes you to make our unique Caribbean beachfront village your home base while you’re here. Inspired by the color and character of the 17th-century pirate trades, the rich artistry of the Mayan culture, and new, low-impact building technology that minimizes disruption of our area's natural beauty, Calico Jack’s Village is unlike any other tourist destination in Belize. Here, on our secluded beach in the unspoiled Stann Creek region of southern Belize, we are the only village to provide an environmentally responsible, wholly personalized retreat for off-track travelers seeking a refreshingly authentic tropical experience.
As Our Personal Guest… The caretakers at Calico Jack's Village are devoted to your comfort, safety, and pleasure, from the food you eat to the adventures you wish to pursue. Even before you arrive, we will know your comfort and travel needs. Expect our help in mapping out tours to nearby land and sea adventures, and arranging your travel by car, boat, or plane. Expect unpavedroads through local villages, tropical vegetation and wildlife, and opportunities to exchange stories with fellow adventurers and local residents. Enjoy gracious accommodations, contented sleep, smiling faces in your midst, and the sounds, sensations, and sights of a tropical seaside retreat. Bring your camera, notebook, and sketchpad for memory's sake. And bring your laptop if you must. Calico Jack's Village offers guests seven com-modious, fan-cooled cabanas, four with air conditioning and each with its own view of the sea just 60 feet from the front doors. Set a comfortable distance behind the cabanas are two two-unit, air conditioned villas available for purchase or rental. Our guests are served a wide variety of wonderful Belizean dishes and exotic drinks prepared on-site in our open-air, poolside bar and restaurant. Each village unit is supplied with a hot-and-cold water bathroom, self generated electricity, pure bottled drinking water, and bathing water piped directly from the sea through our own on-site desalination system.
Extraordinary Building Construction Builders and architects the world over are already talking about the extraordinary methods Calico Jack's Village owner, Chester Williams, used in building this self-sustainable village. Inspired by the need for a building material that would withstand the high-velocity winds of an occasional hurricane, Chester invented UroBlock™ (patent issued in Belize, pending in US), a material whose components and manufacturing processes are ideal for remote tropical structures. As the first and only site in the world to be built with UroBlock™, Calico Jack's Village already stands as an historic architectural landmark.
Environmental preservation in the construction and ongoing operation of Calico Jack’s Village is a personal priority of owners and developers, Chester “Chet” Williams and Dr. Ydahlia Metzgen-Williams. In deciding to build an authentic Belizean village for travel-lovers, they made a commitment to ensure that the surrounding jungle and waterways would be left in their pristine condition. To that end, they have made every effort to employ and engage local Belizeans in the building project and to do everything possible to make the village self-sustaining without disturbing the jungle to the north and west of the village.
By employing local Belizeans at the village, Chet’s and Ydahlia’s intention is two-fold: First, they hope to send a message of environmental responsibility to the people who are the stewards of their beautiful native land; and second, they hope to make use of native talent in building, designing, and furnishing the village in authentic Belizean style. With the realization that building a village on the beach is a potentially environmentally threatening project, they installed generators from which all the electricity is drawn. In addition, they hired engineers to design and install a desalination system that recycles sea water to provide pure bathing water while giving back to the sea what is hers.
Because the cabanas and all other units in the village are made with UroBlock at the core, little need exists for indigenous materials that are in low supply. As the cohoon palm and hardwood are plentiful in Belize, Chet and Ydahlia have commissioned their use in the construction of the thatched roofs and support beams. Even the chairs and tables furnished in the cabanas, restaurant, and villas are hand-made with native hardwood by local Belizeans. The result is a rustic elegance that communicates a sense of serenity and respect for the land and sea. |
