Vacation of a lifetime at Black Rock Lodge
By: Jenny Smith from California
Date of Visit: October 2005
Gary and I spent our honeymoon at Black Rock Lodge. 4 days filled with adventure and 5 nights of excellent food, great times, and comfortable rustic jungle cottages. The power was eco generated through solar and hydro, the tile-roof cottages were well lit, clean, comfortable, and the shower had excelent pressure and lots of hot water.
We canoed on the beautiful Macal river, took a packed lunch and a cooler with cold drinks and stopped at several river-beaches along the way.
We also visted the Caracol Mayan Ruin, which Gary really enjoyed, along with the 1000 foot falls and swimming at the Rio On bathing pools in the Mountain Pine Ridge. The vehicle was new, well maintained and the knowledgeable Belize driver spoke perfect English and was very proffessional and curtious.
Ivan, the chef, was incredible. The meals were served hot and on time. The veges were fresh, the soups were the best (he even gave me the reciepe for the home made tomato soup), and the fresh fruit juices and desserts were out of this world! I would have gained 10 pounds if it had not been for the hiking trail to the Vista (incredible view 800 feet above Vaca Falls) and the horse back riding to Flour Camp Cave (filled with Mayan pottery).
This really was one of the absolute best vacations ever! We have already decided that we will return next year to do the tubing on the river and see some more Mayan Ruins! Thank you Black Rock!
