Laid back, good diving !

Spent a great week here! Diving was fantastic - the DM Hector was in the water on every dive, showed us the reef, and let us dawdle over seahorses whenever we found them. We had eight on people on the big boat, had a bucket for the cameras, and (a first for me) they kept track of our profiles. Highly recommend diving Bear's Den - best dive of the week!
The food was good, and the waiters & cooks took excellent care of us. The local beer (salva vida) was decent and cheap. Had a great view out over the water. Spent a lot of time in a hammock on the balcony, too.
The island looks like it is really starting to develop, but they don't have the condo hawkers going down the beach like in Cozumel. No big places yet, but the manager said that there were supposed to be some in the next two years.

Perfect - Bay Island Beach Resort

We feel lucky! Bay Island Beach Resort picked my girlfriend and I up personally at the airport. Our luggage was misrouted by the airline, and BIBR gave us dive gear and clothes, saving our vacation. The owners tracked down our bags and rescued them from the airport.
We dove Spooky channel from shore, and Gustavo our Divemaster selected boat trips around every part of the island. We seemed to have the reef all to ourselves. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Gilbert gave us a personal tour of Coxen Hole. Edison introduced us to a local band, the Sherman Boys. Ted, the owner, went out diving with us once.
Ostel gave us a tour of the grounds, pointing out all of the fruit trees. Glen personally invited us out to Flowers Bay and introduced us to many of the locals. Side trips were arranged whenever we wanted...shark dives, canopy zip lines, dolphin swims.
The atmosphere was so friendly, we even got to know many other people at the resort. I don't know if we would have made so many new friends elsewhere, but I feel lucky. We went for the diving, but got so much more.
